How are you going to do this on expedition? You need to be able to identify what you see—saying we saw lots of birds is not good enough! Take an identification chart to identify animals – mark on when and where you see animals. You could make your own chart, download one or buy one. Make a tally chart—how many of each animal did you see? Where? When? Condition? Doing what? Stop at various points to look for examples / evidence of wildlife—this may include prints in mud, fur / feathers, noise, nests, burrows, poo, food sources / remains of food... Compare different locations eg river side, top of hill, in village, in fields, in woods Cows, sheep and farm animals do not count!
Possible wild animals to see / find evidence of: Deer, mouse, stoat, vole, different birds, butterflies, bees, frogs / toads, spiders, moths, dragonflies, hedgehogs, squirrels, bats, rabbits, hares.
ideas:
Add photos and results (numbers, locations, lists, examples of evidence of animals) to power point presentation. Submit results to National campaigns such as Butterfly week. There are similar things throughout the year for birds, trees, bees... Were you surprised at what you saw / did not see? Make a scrap book of pictures, feathers, bits of fur (off walls / fences!) or anything else related to wildlife
