Time does fly! As of this newsletter we are already into the second month of the year 2015. This month, the month of February, is known for being the month of love. It is most noted for the kind of love that we would call romantic love. Romanic love is a wonderful kind of love, but it is not the kind of love I want to talk about here in this article. I want to talk about the love that we see in the life and ministry of Jesus. This is the kind of love that Jesus gives us as two of the most important commandments, the two that sum up all the other laws and commandments. First there is the love for our God, then the love for our fellow person. Now I have some hard questions for you! Do we really think hard enough about what these two commandments mean, or do we just recite them and go on about our lives as usual? Do we really love God enough to put him first and at the complete center of our lives? I think most of us are good about doing that on Sunday morning, but when we leave church we go back to our lives in this world and put God on a shelf somewhere to collect dust until the following week. Then, when we are faced with all our weekly problems we want to be upset and even get mad at God for not helping us! We must love God and keep him front and center of our lives every minute of every day. He can never be second to anything! Then Jesus tells us to love our neighbor. Just what does that mean? First I think we need to really dig deep and question just who our neighbor is. I don’t think Jesus is talking just about that nice middle class family living next door to us. I think Jesus means everyone we come in contact with no matter who they are or what dirty laundry they carry with them. I think he would also include those folks in other parts of the world that need our love and help. You see, for us Christians there is more to this love thing than just romantic love or love for our own families!! The other kind of love Jesus talks about in his ministry is the best kind of love but also a very difficult love, because it takes a lot of work on our part. We will always fall short without the help of God. So I challenge you this month to think about love and all its meanings, and work on perfecting your love life in God’s Kingdom!! Blessings and peace, Pastor Gary

As a people, we are a community called to care, to share, and to feed all of God’s people.

MINUTES FOR FLC CONGREGATIONAL COUNCIL JANUARY 13, 2015 The FLC Congregational Council met on January 13, 2015 at 7 pm with a quorum present. The members attending were Ellene Valenta, Falba Roberts, Bobby Rippstein, Deb Rayburn, Fred Schauer, Carroll Lohse, Neill Lutheringer, Ed Herolt, and Thomas Cox. Flo Winkler was absent. Pastor Gary Conklin and Cindy Hilliard were, also, there.

Ellene called the meeting to order and called on Pastor Gary to open with prayer.

The minutes were read and approved as written. Cindy Hilliard gave the treasurer’s report for the end of 2014 and answered all questions from the group. The report was approved.

DISCUSSSION OF PROPOSED BUDGET Then, Cindy went over the proposed budget which Pastor Gary, Flo Winkler, Ellene, and Cindy worked on in November. She pointed out the cuts we had to make to bring the budget in line with our donations. We decided to make our weekend bulletin one page instead of 12 pages. This will save ink, time, and paper. The newsletter will be sent through our website. Those wanting a paper copy will have to sign up for one. Kitchen plastic plates, cups, and glasses will be bought from Walmart or Sam’s as needed by committees running the kitchen for different events. If the committee does not want to get the items, they will use the dishwasher to take care of the dirty dishes. We will use a Sam’s Credit Card for the church. Oil for the perpetual lamp was expensive, so Bobby will check on electric light for the lamp. The lamp would be on only during service time instead of all week long.

APPROVAL OF PROPOSED BUDGET Carroll moved, Ed seconded, and the board passed the approval of the Proposed Budget for 2015. The proposed budget will be presented for approval at the semi-annual meeting of the congregation on January 25, 2015.

SUNDAY SCHOOL REPORT Ellene reported an average attendance of 18 and a total collection of $37.80 for Sunday School.

PASTOR’S REPORT Pastor Gary reported two funerals: Carol Scotten and Louis Brandt. He made many hospiCont’d on Pg 11

APPOINTMENTS TO COUNCIL COMMITTEES;

Ellene appointed Carroll Lohse to Mutual Ministries, Falba Roberts to replace John McCurdy on the Service Committeee, and Bobby Rippstein to replace Rick Linebrink on the Church Property Committee. Ellene will take Rick Linebrink’s place as the go-between for Joe Linnsteadter and the congregation for custodial duties.

HENRY CONKLIN MEMORIAL FUND Pastor Gary told us that his family will donate $1000 from the Henry Conklin Memorial Fund to buy a nice bowl for the baptismal fount and $8000 to improve the power point system and to make spaces, at the ends of some benches, available for wheel chair members. If this money is not used for the projects mentioned, it can be used for other purposes in the church.

DEEP SINK FOR KITCHEN Ed reported on finding a deep sink for the kitchen to be used to wash big pots. The cost would be close $500. We tabled the purchase until we are sure we have enough money for the project. We will discuss this again in February,

NEW BUSINESS We elected the following as officers of the council: President-----------Ellene Valenta Vice-President-----Thomas Cox Secretary------------Flo Winkler At 9 pm, Ed moved to adjourn, Neill seconded it, and the council approved. Notes of the meeting were recorded by Deb Rayburn and written by Ellene Valenta.

LOCKED DOORS VS UNLOCKED At the congregational meeting on January 25th, we discussed the problem some people were having of getting into the church to do jobs that needed to be done on Saturdays. Since the church was locked when altar quild ladies came and flowers were delivered, we decided that on Saturdays the doors would stay unlocked all day. If you leave the building on that day, do not lock the doors. The general rule on the locked doors is this. If you unlock the door, when you leave you lock it. If the door is unlocked, leave it open. Ellene Valenta

New Flower Chart The new Flower Chart for 2015 is up in the hallway. Now is a good time for you to put in your favorite time for flowers. You have the whole year to choose from. February is open except for Sunday the 22nd. There are several dates open in March as well including the 1st, 8th, and 29th.

Help Replenish Kitchen Supplies The kitchen is in dire need of Regular and Decaf Coffee. It also needs some coffee creamer and Splenda. Thanks for your help!

Join Us! The quilting group is losing members and are in need of more help. If you have some time on Wednesday’s, even if it’s just and hour or two, come on up for a while. If you don’t quilt and would like to learn they will show you how. There are also lots of squares to cut out. There is always something that can be done. Join the group. They always have so much fun!

Beeville Garden Club Table Show The show is February 12th & 13th beginning at 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It will be held in Beeville First National Bank’s Community Room. The theme is “A Moment in Time”. They will have a country store with sweets and gifts for your Valentine. They will have door prizes, demonstrations, and refreshments. Everyone is invited. Sounds like a lot of fun!
