1.
Opener—Do you like to watch war movies? Why or why not? Do you have a favorite?
JOSHUA & RAHAB: FAITH CONQUERING
2.
Read Hebrews 11:30-31. What did you hear in the sermon that you found to be new, helpful, relevant, interesting, or troubling?
Hebrews 11:30-31 From the Red Sea to the Walls of Jericho...
3.
Read Joshua 5:13-15. Who is the man with a sword, and how do you know? What is the significance of his encounter with Joshua?
4.
Read Joshua 6:1-5. How do you think Joshua and his people felt about the battle plan? How do you think the residents of Jericho felt about it? What purpose was served by the trumpet blast and the people’s shout? What is significant about the number seven? The position of the ark?
5.
Read Joshua 6:15-21. Why is such total destruction of Jericho warranted? (See Genesis 15:16 and Deuteronomy 20:16-18.) How are we as Christians to apply these lessons today? (Consider 1 Peter 5:8-11 and Revelation 20:10,15.)
6.
Read Joshua 6:22-23. Why is Rahab spared (v 17)? How was this an expression of genuine faith? (See Joshua 2:8-11 and James 2:24-25.) What eventually became of Rahab, according to v 25 and Matthew 1:5? What does the salvation of Rahab reveal to you about the character of God? How does the salvation of Rahab speak to you about your attitude toward others? What is the most important thing God is saying to you through this story?
