The Fluoride Action Network: Not a Credible Source Paul Connett, the leader of the New York-based Fluoride Action Network (FAN), attacks water fluoridation. He argues that the fluoride that is added to drinking water should be a “pharmaceutical grade.” Does Connett understand what a pharmaceutical grade is? As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains, using a pharmaceutical grade of sodium fluoride would mean no independent testing—leaving testing in control of manufacturers. As the CDC explains, this “could actually increase the amount of impurities” in drinking water. This example shows that FAN is either not well-informed or is misrepresenting the facts to raise fear.
