ADVISORY REPORTS: A. Umpire Clinic: Jason K. reported that the umpire clinic was held this past weekend (Feb 7 & 8). It was run by So Cal Umpires, and included instructors with a lot of experience. The clinic started with 2 hours of rules coverage, then broke up into groups of 12 umpires. An award was given to the best umpire at the end of the clinic. Overall feedback was that the clinic provided great information. B. Field Day: Field Day is scheduled for Sunday, Feb 22 from 1-4pm. Jason B. stated that the biggest thing is for the board to be present to be an example for the league. He wants the DD’s to send him anything that needs to be done. There will be 3 locations for field day, with the dual mound at Cypress being a priority. Jason K. would like to see a comprehensive list for field day. Darren added that there is a problem with field prep buckets – volunteers are not using to the right buckets for their division. Kevin L. suggested that it might be a good idea to get boxes at Del Prado. C. Memorial Day Tournament: Jason K. reported he has been in contact with Jeremy Huffman of Xtreme Diamond Baseball to possibly contract them to run our Memorial Day tournament. Details still need to be ironed out - Xtreme Diamond will provide umpires and trophies, and NPPB will provide field prep, lights, etc. It was suggested we should receive a minimum fixed fee for the tournament. Kevin L. also suggested getting the community involved by doing some non-baseball fundraising. He mentioned a casino night or golf tournament (like they did years ago).

N EWBURY P ARK P ONY B ASEBALL Board M eeting M inutes – February 10, 2015 D. Directories: It was suggested that we provide a digital copy of the directory this year instead of print copy. Kevin L. stated that there are many who keep their directories year after year, and that the NP logo on the directories is a valuable marketing tool. Paul suggested that we should revisit this next year, as families may already be expecting them this year. 7.
OLD BUSINESS: A. All-Star Signs: John reported that the Pinto signs had to be redesigned to fit the backstop. All signs have received approval, and he will move forward to printing the rest. The first sign will be hung this weekend. B. Interleague: Jason K. reported that although Agoura is supposed to have 3 gold teams in Mustang and 2 gold teams in Bronco based on ratio, they have been allowed to have 2 gold teams in Mustang, and 1 in Bronco. In addition, they will have only 1 gold team in Pony (when they should have 2 based on total numbers) due to an apparent late surge in their pony division registration. C. Opening Ceremonies: Tracey reported the sound permit has been approved, the movie has been selected, and vendors have been scheduled. We will not hold a home-run derby, so it was suggested that Riptide Baseball (comprised of all NP players) organize it as their Cooperstown fundraiser.
8.
NEW BUSINESS: A. Game Schedules: Jason K would like the game schedules up by the 20th. Brandon reported a deadline of Monday, Feb 16 for the interleague schedules, but he thinks it’ll be done by the weekend. After the interleague schedule is released, each division needs to look at it and move things around as needed. He also added that Eric needs the games in a certain format to upload onto the website. B. Draft Process/ Procedure Review: Jason K. reported that our current draft process isn’t good, and that new coaches are at a disadvantage. It was suggested that the coaches’ end of year ratings be incorporated. However, there are limitations with using those ratings as there are too many potential variations, especially for the different divisions. Brandon agreed that more thought into the draft is needed. Kevin L. suggested incorporating coaches score, all-star participation, evaluation scores, etc. Stephen suggested a point system, where managers have a certain amount of overall points to draft players. C. 7U “B” All-Star: Jason K. reported a problem with the 7U”B” all-star team during the 2014 season that has resulted in a $1,000 fine and potential sanctions against our league. The team advanced to play in the sectional tournament in Bakersfield, but had forfeited due to not being able to field a team. One or two families decided they did not want to travel to Bakersfield. Brandon and Kevin L. stated this issue needs to be turned over to the discipline committee. Kevin L also added that we need to make sure families turn in the all-star forms prior to the all-star drafts, so managers are aware of availability dates. D. Dodger Day Fundraiser: Tracey reported that Dodger Day is May 3rd, with orders due by March 21st. We are offering 3 sections, and unlike last year, only need to pay for 50% up front. Players and coaches will be able to parade around the field prior to the game, and the first 15,000 kids will receive a Puig replica jersey. There was concern that kids who parade may not receive the giveaway. It was suggested to see if we can reserve some jerseys for our league. E. Soft-Toss Area – Stephen brought up the idea of adding soft-toss cages outside the batting cages. Another suggestion was to have it at each field.
9.
ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at 9:27 pm by Jason and second by Paul. Next meeting is March 9 at Borchard Community Center.
