These data represent a subset of the data available on the paper Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) as provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Q3 flood data were developed to support floodplain management and planning activities but do not replace the official paper FIRMs. These data are not suitable for engineering applications or site work nor can the data be used to determine absolute delineations of flood boundaries. Instead the data should be used to portray zones of uncertainty and possible risks associated with flooding.

Zone A: An area inundated by 100-year flooding, for which no Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) have been determined.

Zone AE: An area inundated by 100-year flooding, for which BFEs have been determined. Zone AH: An area inundated by 100-year flooding (usually an area of ponding), for which BFEs have been determined; flood depths range from 1 to 3 feet. (Areas labeled A1-A30 on FIRMs.) Zone C: Areas of Minimal Flooding (Unshaded Areas) Zone B: An area inundated by 500-year flooding; an area inundated by 100-year flooding with average depths of less than 1 foot or with drainage areas less than 1 square mile; or an area protected by levees from 100-year flooding.
