Your mastery is cementing well casings. You strive for cementing perfection. Your job is to ensure that the steel pipe or casing in a wellbore doesn’t move! You’re in the zone.
HOW DO I GET HERE? A high school diploma (or equivalent) is typically required. Heavy hauling or off-road experience is an asset to the job. Employees must also pass a preemployment physical assessment and drug test.
What does this career look like? Every cement job is different. You’ll discover a vast array of changing geological formations and ground and weather conditions – all of which impact your work. Cement properties (e.g. setting speed) will need to change based on these variables. Cement is integral to the drilling operation because it provides structural integrity in a wellbore and prevents liquids from flowing into ground water. You’re constantly monitoring to ensure the cement is the perfect weight and ratio of powder and water. You do it by using a computer to which all the other equipment is wired, as well as taking cement samples. You ensure a steady flow of communication with the pump operator, bulker and rig crew to monitor conditions like pressure and speed. You are a member of the well services team. You’re here because you have considerable experience on the rigs.
Licensing A Class 1 driver’s licence (with air brake endoresment) and a clean driving record is required.

What would I do? You oversee the operation of equipment used to prepare the appropriate cement mixtures and the flow of cement into the wellbore. You perform calculations to determine the amount of cement mix and additives required, depending on the depth, pressure and volume of cement. You calculate the quantity of cement used and hours of operation. You’ll also need to make calculations to account for changes during the operation. Specifically, you’ll be required to perform these tasks: 4 Assisting in pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections 4 Pulling bulk equipment to the plant for loading 4 Maintaining bulk equipment
