HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR #BackhoeOperator #HeavyHaulTrucker #FrontendLoader #BulldozerOperator You’re behind the wheel of an excavator. Feel that raw horse power. You control, operate and maintain the large machinery used in oil and gas facility or pipeline construction, material handling, mining and quarrying. You operate a powerful giant to manipulate and move massive mounds of earth – hard earth, soft earth, solid rock and sand. You make the land workable to build access roads, pipeline right-of-ways, tunnels, buildings and mines.

What does this career look like? Some Heavy Equipment Operators work with several types of equipment, while others may choose to specialize. The typical roles in this occupation include: • Bulldozer Operators operate crawler-tractors to clear and level dirt, sand, rock and gravel. • Backhoe Operators operate rubber-tired or track equipment to dig holes, trenches and ditches. • Front-end Operators operate rubber-tired or tracked equipment with movable arms and tilting buckets to pick up heavy loads of earth, rock, sand, gravel, ore and snow. • Heavy Haul Truckers operate electric and diesel trucks on oil sands mining sites in order to transport bitumen.

What would I do? You have a sense of pride in your work. One day, you may be driving a motor grader to bring the surface of an access road to final elevation and grade. The next day, you’re driving a bulldozer to move bulk materials used in backfill or to clear trees for a pipeline right-of-way. Or, you may be at an oil sands site, driving a scraper and clearing land. Specifically, this role could include:
