JOINT VENTURE REPRESENTATIVE #JointVentureSpecialist #JointVentureAdministrator You have an over-arching knowledge of how the industry works and the ability to promote collaboration. As a Joint Venture Representative (JVR), you can serve as the glue that holds partnerships together. You are responsible for developing, negotiating and monitoring agreements between partners. To do this, you work closely with logistics, engineering, field operations, land management, accounting, auditing, marketing and legal counsel.

What does this career look like? You enjoy building and sustaining relationships. You are responsible for working with experts, both internal and external, to ensure your company’s interests are served and the agreements are successful. You often find yourself walking like an engineer, talking like a landperson, thinking like an accountant and acting like a lawyer. Or a marketer. Or an auditor. That’s because you have interacted with these different roles so often that you understand their needs. You draw on all of their expertise in order to do your job.

HOW DO I GET HERE? Joint Venture Representatives come from diverse backgrounds, such as engineering, field operations, land management and finance. A post-secondary degree or equivalent technical diploma is typically required. An Energy Asset Management (EAM) two-year diploma is available from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), in partnership with the Centre for Energy Asset Management Studies (CEAMS). What would I do? Conflict resolution is your strength and it’s your job to remain impartial so you can make sure your company or client is well represented. At times, you are the face of the company. When you are not managing relationships, you may be negotiating production facility ownerships or processing and transportation agreements. You keep up your relationships with all parties and ensure that agreements are going smoothly. You’re friendly, but tough. You understand contracts. Because of this, you often find yourself playing the role of advisor. You can be the go-to when people don’t know who to go to with a dispute. Specifically, your job may include: 4 Creating standard form agreements 4 Managing the resolution of business and technical conflicts 4 Providing input into the development and design of production facilities
