5 Reasons to Give to AGR in 2008 1. There’s a campaign going on!
We have less than $305,000 to go to achieve our $1.75 million goal. 173 undergraduates and alumni have stepped forward. The chapter is waiting to hear from approximately 800 brothers before Founders’ Day 2009.
2. $1.75 million will fund three objectives proposed by House Corp.
• Renovation and expansion of the 80-year old chapter house. AGR is no
longer a competitive residence for students. Code compliance, cramped living quarters, and limited technology capabilities are all significant barriers to occupancy and fraternity membership.
• Expansion of parking.
Currently only 9 undergraduates can park on-site. Neighbors are discouraging on-street parking. Without increased parking, expansion of the chapter house is impossible according to Fargo city ordinances.
• Scholarship development. Two-thirds of all
full-time students receive grant
aid according to national statistics. Competition for NDSU scholarships is quite high, often causing the minimum test scores and grade point averages to be greater than stated criteria. A campus leading scholarship program would position AGR prominently on campus and with families of prospective students.
3. 2013 will mark a second century
of service for AGR at NDSU. But this campaign is not about preserving our legacy. Colleges as well as fraternities are changing the way they do business to better address the unique wants and needs of today’s students that are so very different from our own experience. To realize a viable second century vision, housing must be examined. Without change, specifically as it relates to privacy and safety, the current chapter house cannot be competitive.
4. Donors to the 2nd Century
Campaign are eligible to receive a tax deduction. All gifts are being directed
to the Educational Foundation of AGR based in Kansas City, MO. 100% of the money raised by the campaign will be returned to Epsilon. Matching gifts Gregg Halverson ’71 can also be directed to the campaign. For employers who cannot match to a fraternal organization, NDSU is ready to assist the process.
5. Congress is allowing individuals
70½ year of age or older to make tax free gifts directly to qualified charities from traditional or Roth IRAs. The 2nd Century Campaign qualifies. “We know that times are challenging,” says Gregg Halverson ’71, Campaign Chair. “But a gift to Epsilon at this important time in our history will ensure that this fraternity remains a vital first step for young men in pursuit of an agricultural career at NDSU. Over 170 brothers —including many undergraduates—have already done the heavy lifting for this campaign by securing 80 percent of our goal. Now is the time—with 2008 coming to a close—that brothers waiting in the wings can step forward. A successful end to this effort is definitely within our reach!
