A tourist can get confused as it offers an invigorating abundance of attractions, exhibitions, shopping, activities and nightlife. GEOGRAPHY…. Dubai is situated on the Persian Gulf coast of the United Arab Emirates. Apart from being a city, it also forms one of the seven emirates of the country. ... The emirate of Dubai shares borders with Abu Dhabi in the south, Sharjah in the northeast, and the Sultanate of Oman in the southeast. Most of the land is barren and sandy. PEOPLE & CULTURE…. Dubai culture today is very different from what it used to be a decade or two ago. The Dubai culture is a cosmopolitan one. With the influx of great number of foreign population which includes Persians, Indians, Baluchis etc., the culture in Dubai has become a global one. With Islam as its official religion, Culture in Dubai is essentially a Muslim one but the presence of Hindus, Christians, Sikhs etc cannot be ignored and their presence has left an undeniable mark on the Culture in Dubai. GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY… The Dubai government is made up of the Supreme Council of the UAE - the highest federal authority - headed by the hereditary rulers of the seven emirates. It is responsible for general policy matters involving education, defence, foreign affairs, communications, development and the establishment federal laws. Dubai has changed dramatically over the last three decades, becoming a major business centre with a more dynamic and diversified economy. Dubai enjoys a strategic location and serves as the biggest re-exporting centre in the Middle East. Its low logistical and operational costs and excellent infrastructure, international outlook and liberal government policies are attracting investors in a big way.
