As financial managers, we must be vigilant in assessing and managing the risk of fraud, both within our organizations and from contracting parties. Fraud can result in financial loss, contractual default, loss of bonding and lending capacity, adverse judgments, and civil and criminal penalties. Recent legislation has substantially increased the potential exposure of contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers arising from fraud. On federal and state projects, legislation calls for very strict penalties against organizations and their employees, even without a showing of intent to commit fraud.

FISCAL 2013/2014 PRESIDENT Brandon G. Bridges

What constitutes fraud? What can happen to organizations and managers who participate in, or fail to identify, fraud? What can you do to spot fraud, and what should you do when you find it?

VICE-PRESIDENT Jeffery J. Seay
