What are you assessing? Does the intimacy or imposition of the request match the strength of your relationship with your friend? Is it appropriate for you to ask?
We were granted freedom to ask God: “Give us today our daily bread. … forgive us … lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Matthew 6:11 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:9-11
What was Paul asking of God for the church?
Why don’t people ask God? Instead of asking, we ________________________. Instead of asking, we feel the request is ___________________________. Instead of asking, we feel __________________. Instead of asking, we don’t do ____________________. Instead of asking, we feel ___________________. Instead of asking for power, we ask for ________________________________. Instead of asking, we prefer _______________________.
1. To know ________________________ “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” Ephesians 1:17
When you truly ____________ him, you’ll be free to _________ him!
2. To experience _____________________________ “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18-19
Hope … Riches … Power …. When you truly ____________ him, you’ll be free to _________ him!
