Recruitment Success Recruitment went fabulous this year! With all the changes that happened (it got moved to the weekend, it got moved down to three days instead of four AND it was held over Labor Day weekend) our wonderful women embraced these changes better than I could have ever imagined! Thanks to our fabulous ladies, we welcomed 25 beautiful new members home to Sigma Kappa. I would also like to personally thank our amazing alumnae who helped out, I appreciate it so much! Y’all are truly a blessing. Love and LISK Brenna Boehm, Vice President of Membership

Summer Adventures Sonja Jones I spent 5 weeks in Peru over the summer taking a class called Engineering and Ecological Technologies. I stayed in a very small town called Huyro in the mountainous region of Cusco. Over the course of the 5 weeks I learned so much. I had the most hands-on experience with solar applications such as solar concentrators, solar showers, solar cookers and solar heaters. I was able to process coffee and chocolate all the way from picking off the trees to toasting it with a solar concentrator. They were both pretty delicious! I also learned so much about the culture, language and people that I was surrounded by. There were only a small few that were fluent in English, so I frequently had to use the little Spanish that I know. I also learned a few things in Quechua, the native language of Peru. The people were so friendly, affectionate and made us feel very welcome. This trip was an amazing experience with some challenges and many good times. Lauren Revis I worked down in The Woodlands, Texas for Baker Hughes at their Bit Manufacturing Facility. I ran computational fluid dynamics analysis on hybrid bit models in order to come up with suggestions to improve the bits overall performance. I also did bit forensics in which I received a damaged bit returned from the field and I had to determine the cause of failure! Lizzie Miskovetz I had a great summer interning for Ball Aerospace here in Boulder! I worked in the ground support equipment group designing mechanical equipment to interface with and help test various satellites and instruments. One of the highlights was getting to see the next Digital Globe satellite, WorldView 3, which will do things like take pictures for Google Earth! We also launched some rockets with Ball payloads inside, as part of a summer extracurricular activity for Ball interns. The rockets we launched are the largest in Colorado history, and the Future rocket that my payload was on went up to ~9000 ft in altitude!

National Convention This past summer, our president, Christian Feagans and our Vice President of Recruitment, Brenna Boehm, attended National Convention in Las Vegas. Here’s what Christian said about the experience: “This summer, I had the opportunity to go to National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. This trip was full of many exciting events like learning more about the Ultraviolet Campaign, listening to wonderful speakers that are Sigma Kappas just like me, and meeting collegiate and alumnae sisters from across the nation. My favorite part though was being able to see Sigma Kappa ritual on a grand scale. From singing grace, to the initiation ceremony held for the honor initiates, I had goose bumps the whole time. I’ve always know that ritual is shared between all sisters, but I had never seen it in action. The biggest thing that I learned at Convention is that ritual is way more than songs we must memorize. Ritual truly is something that binds us together. Though we may come from different chapters, many of us were united in one city for a weekend, and I hope that one day I will be able to go to convention again and experience it for a second time.” Christian Feagans President
