Grade 2 Unit 6 Assessment Subtraction Note: The classroom teacher reads the test questions aloud to students.
1.
Willard set up his place value mat to subtract 286 from 695. What does he need to do next? 695 – 286 = Hundreds
Tens
Decompose a hundred square into 10 ten rods. Decompose a ten rod into 10 unit cubes. Decompose a hundred square into 100 unit cubes. Compose the unit cubes into a ten rod.
For questions 9-10, use Janet’s work sample below. Janet 45 –28 27
9.
Janet solved this problem incorrectly. What did she do wrong? After she unbundled a ten, she forgot to add them to the ones. She added when she should have subtracted. Janet forgot to show she regrouped the tens place. She regrouped when it wasn’t needed.
You can check your work with addition. Subtraction still works even if the numbers are not lined up in their place value columns. Sometimes you need to decompose hundreds or tens to solve a subtraction problem. The difference is always the smallest number in a subtraction problem.
