Programs & Events Clinics– Members have the opportunity to learn about the newest information regarding the program and the industry through the 4-H Horse Clinic Series held during the 4-H year. Club Shows– Shows are sponsored by county clubs throughout the show season. Riders gain valuable show experience while working toward awards at the end of the season. Genesee County and NYS Fairs– Interact with the public about your horse project and show it off for a sense of accomplishment

Are you a horse lover? If you are, then 4-H has just the program for you. The 4-H Horse Program can help you learn more about horses and have fun doing it. As a 4-H member, you can learn about riding and how to care for horses. You can even learn all the parts of a horse. Through the 4-H Horse program, you can learn new skills with your friends and practice them using a variety of hands–on activities.

How can you be part of the 4-H Horse program? The program is for youth between the ages of 5 and 19. Five through seven year old members can participate in the many non-horse handling activities. A member must be 8 years of age (as of January 1) to participate in horse handling activities such as club shows.

Trips and Year-End Banquet– Trips such as the Standardbred Day Field Trip and the Standardbred Camp that offer unique learning opportunities. The county year-end awards banquet concludes the show season. Educational Contests– Test your knowledge of the horse field by participating in any of the following contests– hippology, horse bowl, horse judging, public speaking.

**Please keep in mind that we offer projects in the animal science program that do not require owning an animal.**

Volunteers make the Difference The 4-H Horse Program is supported heavily by adult volunteers. Many program activities and events throughout the year are coordinated by program volunteers. We encourage responsible and caring adults to have an important role in helping young people become caring adults. Call the 4-H office for an application.
