Girl Scouts Give Back to the Bays Scout Kayak Tours Cadette-Ambassador $15/participant Learn how to kayak and go on a guided kayak tour with an American Red Cross certified lifeguard, then spend some time in our touch tank room! Choose from our Marine Science Learning Center in Southold, or our Tiana Bayside Facility in Hampton Bays. Seniors earn their Paddling Badge. Offered seasonally.

Shark Anatomy & Dissection Mini Marine Meadows Workshop

Cadette-Ambassador $15/participant Participate in an in-depth discussion of a shark's anatomy and biology and learn how to identify its parts. Then, work in small teams to dissect a local shark species!

All levels $125/workshop Learn why eelgrass is an essential habitat to many of our local marine species and how we are working on bringing them back, Daisy $12/participant despite eelgrass meadow decline in recent decades. This Daisy Girl Scouts will earn TWO petals! Learn about local hands-on workshop will provide scouts an opportunity to help us marine environments and how to protect them, participate in a live restore local eelgrass meadows by creating “burlap tortillas” for animal presentation and help us with a habitat restoration project use in our restoration efforts. Mini touch tank included! as you earn your "Using Resources Wisely" and "Make the World a Better Place" petals.

All levels $15/participant Earn your Outdoor Art badge by participating in Art+Science Integration projects with a marine science twist! Each Marine Artist program is tailored for your troop's level to fully satisfy the Outdoor Art badge requirements.

Mini Citizen Scientist

3 Cheers for Sea Creatures! Daisy $12/participant Daisy Girl Scouts will work toward awards from the "3 Cheers for Animals" journey. Go on a bay beach scavenger hunt, learn how to use a seine net to catch local marine life and learn the basics of aquarium care to better care for aquatic animals as you earn your "Birdbath" and "Red Robin" awards. Offered seasonally.

Daisy-Junior $12/participant Earn your Think Like a Citizen Scientist badge! Citizen science connects the public with scientists to help them conduct research. Brownie $12/participant Learn how to observe like a marine scientist and how to analyze Brownie Girl Scouts will earn two awards from the "Wonders of data to help keep our local bays clean by participating in a Water" Journey. Participate in a meet-and-greet of local marine hands-on restoration project. life, then earn your "Love Water" and "Save Water" awards by taking a journey through the water cycle and become a stormwater superhero! Brownie-Ambassador $12/participant Scouts will experience a day in the life of a marine scientist! A custom fit program tailored to your level's badge requirements. Includes a live animal presentation, seining to catch and release local sea creatures and a habitat restoration activity. Be prepared to get wet! Offered seasonally, weather dependent. Badges covered: Brownie Outdoor Adventurer, Junior Animal Habitats, Cadette Breathe Journey, Ambassador Water Badge

Girl Scouts Give Back to the Bays

Marine Habitats Junior $12/participant Junior Girl Scouts will earn the "Energize Award" from the "Get Moving" Journey by getting up close and personal with local marine life and exploring an interactive model of various land uses and how pollutants are carried to our local waters. Scouts will then learn how they can help our local bays and watersheds, and create a recycled eco-friendly art piece to take home.

Marine Mammal Conservation

Cadette $12/participant Cadette Girl Scouts will work towards their Animal Helpers badge by exploring the world of marine mammals and the threats impacting their populations. Experiment with a blubber glove, participate in the whale length lab and explore marine mammal artifacts including whale bones, walrus tusks, otter fur and more!

Voices for Wildlife

Senior $12/participant Senior Girl Scouts will work toward their Voice for Animals badge by exploring local marine life and finding what it's like to work with marine animals, while investigating the issues our local habitats currently face. Scouts will also get an introductory course on shark conservation and learn what they can do to help sharks around the world!

Our Girl Scouts Give Back to the Bays Initiative offers scouts unique opportunities to learn about, and get involved with, the marine science-based research, restoration and stewardship efforts of CCE's Marine Program, all while earning badges in a hands-on setting at our waterfront Marine Environmental Learning Center in Southold.

If traveling is a concern, some programs can be booked at your troop's regular meeting time and location.

Programs run about 2 hours long and require a minimum of 8 paid participants to book an on-site program, or 10 paid participants to book an off-site program.
