RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED

TIME VALUE MATERIAL

Our vision is to see all creation reconciled to God through Christ Jesus.

Have you ever heard that we live in the in-between times? The Kingdom of God has come and is yet to be fulfilled. The Son of God came and died for us and was raised yet he is still to return as He promised He would. On the cross Jesus said “It is finished” yet on Easter morning everything begins anew. What a wonderful and blessed Easter we will all share in just two short weeks. I hope that we will fill our church building and joyfully welcome the “Alleluias!” back into our worship. At our Easter service this year we will also welcome two new Christians into God’s church through baptism. But most of all we will celebrate the realization of God’s gift of salvation after having journeyed together with Jesus through Lent and Holy Week to, and through, the cross. Jesus brought God’s plan for redemption to completion during Holy Week and on Good Friday and, through that hard work, God opened the door to fulfilled and eternal life for each of us at the tomb Easter morning. What amazing love! But there is a problem that still seems to plague us, in the church. Even after we celebrate the wonderful gift of Easter, we often forget that we live in the in-between times. What was finished opened the door for us to begin.

What we look back on is what gives us our reason and our motivation to look ahead. That is why, as we move into the season of Easter, our focus needs to change. In light of the cross and the resurrection our message and our mission takes on renewed meaning. And what is this message and this mission? Well, it is a message and a mission that hasn’t changed in thousands of years. Here is how Peter says it when he is asked about who Jesus is; He says that He is “the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” This is what Thomas says about Jesus; He is “my Lord and my God.” The danger for us is that we would lose our focus and chase after a different mission with a different message. There is undoubtedly much work to be done in order to live out our faith in our hurting world by feeding the poor and freeing the captives. It is important and needed work. But in light of the resurrection it is important to understand that it is not our primary work. It is important to know that the only way that these tasks, this critical work, can be truly and powerfully accomplish is to embrace the life-transforming truth that Jesus died on the cross so that we could be more than we are within our own strength and understanding. We must never forget that it is not about our work but rather it is about God’s gift and what He accomplished, and continues to accomplish, through that gift. And so, again on this coming Easter, I hope you will join me in embrace again the in-between times, where, although it is finished, it has only just begun.

From your Senior Warden: Out of the Darkness We awake each morning, blessed with a new day, taking for granted the hard won freedoms and luxuries of life in post-modern America. I wonder how many of us take time to reflect and ponder on what a blessing God has bestowed upon us, here in the glorious piece of real estate known as the State of Colorado. Our dear bishop is always quite ready to remind us of the immensity of this state and diocese, the diverse landscape and cultures and the complex network of parishes and regions that make up the Episcopal Church in Colorado. It truly is a wonder of God’s own creation. His handiwork moves all around us and inside us. His Holy Spirit permeates all life. It is in truth, a wonderful, and yet, a very broken world. There is darkness all around us. One of my favorite poets, William Stafford, wrote a powerful short poem: The Darkness Around Us is Deep. Here is the first stanza: If you don't know the kind of person I am and I don't know the kind of person you are a pattern that others made may prevail in the world and following the wrong god home we may miss our star. To we Christians, being awake in the Holy Spirit of God leads us each away from that darkness and points to that shining star, Jesus. During Lent, the study and reflection upon the upcoming mystery of Christ's death is laid upon us. With Good Friday, we enter into a place of darkness, where Christ is removed, his light extinguished. In truth, until the resurrection celebration, the darkness around us in indeed, very, very deep. His triumphant victory over Satan and death and His glorious return on Easter is the shattering of that black nite without His presence. We are commissioned to live out that Easter life each morning when we wake in God's glorious presence. The victory has been won, yet there are many, many battles yet to be fought. Literally millions of people live out their lives seeking that light, only to led astray, and..."following the wrong god home..." they miss their true star and savior. We can be that one person whom the Spirit uses to point the way to Christ. All we need do is wake each day prepared to listen for that call! I leave you with a morning prayer from the Celtic tradition of the Outer Hebrides. "Thanks to Thee ever, O gentle Christ, That Thou hast raised me freely from the black And from the darkness of last night To the kindly light of this day. Praise unto Thee, O God of all creation, According to each life, Thou hast poured on me, My desire, my word, my sense, my repute, My thought, my deed, my way, my fame.” May God bless each of you this Lenten season, as we prepare for the return of our blessed morning star, Jesus, our Lord and Savior, -Stephen Anthony, Senior Warden

To everyone who attended the service on March 11th to welcome Bishop O’Neill. To Joe’s Café for preparing all the food for our breakfast for the Bishop’s visit. To Dean and Lois for picking up the food at Joe’s. To Shirley Mosher, Norma Jeanne Carroll, Fritz Carroll, and their grandson, Tyler, for setting up the parish hall for the breakfast. It looked beautiful! To all who helped with the clean-up after the breakfast. To everyone who is attending the Lenten study and for preparing food for the meal. To all who donated to the Sidewalk Fund and especially to our matching donor.

These are great examples of how God is blessing us by raising up faithful workers in the midst of a faithful community. Is God asking for your help, too?

God is blessing us … so we can bless others!
