The Eastern College Athletic Conference The Eastern College Athletic Conference administers 105 championships in 37 sports. The ECAC Championships offer over 19,000 student-athletes from the 321 member institutions, including 189 in Division III, an opportunity to extend their seasons through the year-ending championships, or an additional possibility to qualify for an NCAA Championship. ECAC Championships are held for both men and women in team and individual sports during the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The mission of the ECAC shall be to initiate, stimulate

Today’s student-athletes are faced with many challenges both on and off the playing field. With this in mind, Oswego State is proud to have developed one of the leading NCAA Challenging Athletic Minds for Personal Success (CHAMPS)/Life Skills programs in the country, consisting of five commitment areas: * Athletic excellence * Academic excellence * Personal development * Career development * Service Oswego State has two staff members dedicated to academic support programs for its student-athletes, such as the Student-Athlete Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) programs in addition to the CHAMPS/Life Skills program.

Oswego Country Club The Oswego Country Club is among the nation’s oldest golf clubs having been established in 1897. The A.W. Tillinghast/Cornish designed par-71 course measures 6,410 yards from the back tees with a slope of 122 and a course rating of 70.5.

Facilities

Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Head Coach Mike Howard Mike Howard, a 1987 graduate of Oswego State, recently completed his 16th year as the head coach of the men’s golf team. At Oswego State, Howard’s teams have experienced a great deal of success. The Lakers played in the ECAC Championships in 1994. In 1995, Toby Draper became the first Laker to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships since the early 1980s. Since Howard took over the program, the team has captured 14 invitational titles, including the Oswego State Fall Invitational in 2005 and the Elmira College Spring Invitational in 2006 and 2008. In addition to his golf duties, Howard also serves as the wrestling coach at Oswego State. Howard resides in Oswego with his wife, Su-Ann and their three children.

2009-2010 Season in Review Lakers Card Several Strong Finishes Men’s golf turned in five top-five finishes during the 2009-10 schedule with a fourth place at the Oswego State Fall Invitational followed the next weekend by another fourth-place finish at the Elmira Fall Invitational. In the spring, the Lakers took fourth at the Hamilton Invitational and second at the Elmira Spring Invitational. The Lakers received solid contributions throughout the season from several individuals, including juniors Jeff Boeckl and Pat Davidow and freshman Nick Sterling. Sterling was named to the all-tournament team at the Hamilton Invitational after finishing tied for third, while Boeckl and Davidow tied for fourth at Elmira in the spring.
