Northern Illinois University, Intercollegiate Athletics Graduate Assistant –Facilities and Event Operations Northern Illinois University, a NCAA Division I institution, member of the Mid-American Conference is seeking qualified applicants for a Graduate Assistant in the area of Facilities and Event Operations. Positions are twelve (12) month appointments for a total of twenty four months (24) months beginning July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 and July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. These 12-month positions include a tuition waiver and a stipend of $1,000 per month. Graduate Assistants will report to the Sr. Event Administrator – Director of Events, with the goal of providing high level customer service to the clients, teams, and attendee of all events hosted in NIU Athletic facilities. Working nights, weekends and holidays is an essential function of this position. Duties and Responsibilities           

Provide pre and event day coordination with coaches and clients for athletic and rental/special events held in athletic venues as assigned. Work with other areas, such as Ticketing, Marketing, Operations, and Huskie Sports Properties, in coordinating event needs and requirements. Assist with Event staff scheduling program and communication regarding event staffing. Game day assistance with on-field/court preparation, set-up and operations. Assist with maintaining playing surfaces for all sports, primarily at the outdoor sport facilities. Point person for visiting team and officials to ensure that all event information is communicated for assigned athletic events. Assist with/conduct check-in camps for all sports. Conduct oneself ethically within the rules and regulations of NIU, the NCAA, and the conference. Office hours and event coverage are required Cash handling responsibilities - $5,000 - $10,000 annually Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications    

Bachelor’s Degree required Currently enrolled or accepted into the NIU Graduate School by Fall 2017 Ability to effectively communicate through written, oral and electronic forms; Attention to detail is essential Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications   

Previous experience in Event management or Facilities Operations Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, or other related field is preferred Strong desire to pursue a career in intercollegiate or professional athletics or venue management.

Outgoing, high-energy personality and ability to deal with people in multiple settings and varied backgrounds Ability to develop and initiate unique ideas; work independently with multiple deadline driven projects Experience working within/managing a budget
