Northern Illinois University, Intercollegiate Athletics Graduate Assistant –Marketing, Convocation Center Northern Illinois University, a NCAA Division I institution, member of the Mid-American Conference is seeking qualified applicants for a Graduate Assistant in the area of Event and Facility Marketing. Positions are twelve (12) month appointments for a total of twenty-four months (24) months beginning July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 and July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. These 12-month appointments include a tuition waiver and a stipend of $1,000 per month. Graduate Assistants will report to the Director of the Convocation Center, with the goal of providing high level customer service to the clients, teams, and attendee of all events hosted in NIU Athletic facilities. Working nights, weekends and holidays is an essential function of this position. Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, direct, execute and evaluate strategic marketing plans and materials for Convocation Center Events.
Responsible for all promotion, publicity and public relations for the Convocation Center with the general public and the area news media. Includes managing all media relationships Manages and directs groups ticket sale campaigns, which includes keeping accurate and updated group sales records, group sales contacts and coordination of all group sales efforts.
Conduct research for various marketing and group sales projects on a per-show basis. Manage the Convocation Center website. Monitor and maintain social media presence. Oversee suite sales and day of event suite operation. Conduct oneself ethically within the rules and regulations of NIU, the NCAA, and the conference. Office hours and event coverage are required Help with day-to-day operations.
Other projects and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required Currently enrolled or accepted into the NIU Graduate School by Fall 2017 Ability to effectively communicate through written, oral and electronic forms; Attention to detail is essential Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in Event marketing Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, or other related field is preferred
Strong desire to pursue a career in event marketing and publicity. Outgoing, high-energy personality and ability to deal with people in multiple settings and varied backgrounds Ability to develop and initiate unique ideas; work independently with multiple deadline driven projects Experience working within/managing a budget
