Green is in the eye of the beholder. What’s the hottest color in the building market? Green. These days, the hottest color in the building market is almost certainly green. But we’re not talking exteriors – the trend refers to sustainable and eco-friendly trends that have taken over the industry. In an article titled “What is seen as green,” a recent issue of Professional Builder asks: With so many standards, rating systems and certification programs in the marketplace, who defines green anyway?
To answer this question, Professional Builder surveyed builders and architects to see what “green” means to them. Their answers were eye-opening – and incredibly valuable for us in the fenestration industry. In fact, the survey showed that 92.4 percent of respondents include energyefficient windows in their homes – the highest of all new-home features. That’s higher than energy-efficient appliances, high-efficiency HVAC systems and even enhanced insulation. In a sense, then, energy-efficient windows are the essence of today’s green home.
