Brighton Twp. Bears, Inc. Parental / Guardian Code of Conduct 2017 Child’s Name: ______________________________
By signing the acknowledgement of the code of conduct, I affirm that:
I will remember that youth sports are played for fun! I will encourage my child(ren) to do their very best. I will make every effort to have my child(ren) at all practices and games on time or provide an appropriate excuse to the respective coach/sponsor beforehand. I will be responsible for my behavior as well as for the behavior of those who attend the games/practices as my guest. I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and official at every game, practice or other Brighton Twp. Bears or BCYFL events. I will actively participate in the one mandatory fundraiser during the 2017 season. I will make every effort to attend BT Bears’ general membership meetings, held on the first Thursday of every month, so that my voice may be heard in the proper forum. I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win. I will inform the coach or sponsor of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others. I will demonstrate good sportsmanship regardless of the score. I will be in control of my emotions at all times. I will remain in the spectator area during games/practices. (Parents are not permitted on the field.) I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment. I will not encourage behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes/cheerleaders. I will support coaches and officials working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all. I will not advise the coach/sponsor on how to do his or her job. I will not coach my child during practice or a game. I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all BT Bears’ events. I will not drink alcohol at a game/practice or come intoxicated to any BTB practice/game. I will remember that the game is for our youth – NOT ADULTS – and that participation in youth sports is a privilege, not a right. I will show respect for all participants at all times. I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans, and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability. I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child. I will not instruct him to harm any other participants. I will not make insulting comments to players, cheerleaders, parents, officials, or coaches of either team. I promise to help my child enjoy the youth sports experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectable fan, assisting with coaching, or providing transportation. I will not use foul language in the presence of children. I understand that verbal assaults or demeaning language directed towards coaches, sponsors, players, cheerleaders or referees will not be tolerated. I will not publicly criticize coaches, sponsors or officials, as it impedes our goal of players learning and showing proper respect for adults in those leadership roles. I acknowledge that by signing this agreement, the code also applies to any other parent or guardian of my child(ren). I am responsible for sharing this code of conduct with any other family member in attendance at a BTB practice or game and requiring that family member to abide by its conditions and rules.
(over)
Player Code of Conduct 2017 I agree:
I will have fun! I will be a good sport (win or lose). I will show respect for my head coach, assistant coaches, sponsors, fellow players, officials and opponents. I promise to arrive at all practices and games on time or provide an appropriate excuse beforehand. I will honor the authority of each official and treat him or her with respect. I will refrain from using abusive language and/or arguing with officials, coaches, sponsors or other players. I will accept the fact that a violation of this code may result in my suspension or dismissal as a player/cheerleader. I will not use profanity, talk "trash", or taunt others before, during, or after any game. I will not act in any way that may incite spectators.
Proper Protocol Any parent/guardian or player who wishes to address a concern with a coach must do so AFTER a practice or game, outside the presence of other players or parents or, if necessary, over the phone. If the issue is not resolved, he/she may file a complaint with the proper Commissioner (Dave Thompson for football or Mel Speerhas for cheer), who may then submit it to the Board for resolution.
Penalties At any BT Bears’ event, practice or competition, any adult who verbally abuses, attempts to intimidate, is flagrantly rude to, or does not control their language or actions with a player, official, coach, spectator, commissioner or BTB board member will be asked to leave the event. He or she will receive written warning regarding their behavior. If the spectator fails to leave upon request, law enforcement authorities may be called to remove the spectator. Any adult that commits a second similar offense will be banned from BTB events for the remainder of that season. Any adult who physically assaults an official, coach, or BTB board member will be banned from BTB for one year from the date of the offense. After one year, the parent may apply for re-instatement. If the adult commits a second offense, he or she will be permanently banned from all BT Bears’ activities and events. The term physical assault includes, but is not limited to: hitting, slapping, pushing, spitting, kicking or striking in any way with any part of the body or any physical implement. I also agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to, the following: 1. Documented verbal warning by commissioner, head coach, head sponsor or BTB Board member 2. Written warning by any of above to be kept on file 3. Parent, Player, or Coach game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file by BTB 4. Parent, Player, or Coach season suspension 5. Parent, Player, or Coach permanent expulsion from BTB
PARENTAL CODE OF CONDUCT 2016 ACKNOWLEDGMENT By signing below I agree to abide by the rules and guidelines set forth in the Brighton Township Bears’ Parental Code of Conduct for the 2017 football and cheerleading season. By signing below, I acknowledge that I have been given at least one copy of the “Parental Code of Conduct 2017” and understand the penalties to me and my child(ren), should I choose not to follow the Parental Code of Conduct as set forth. I further acknowledge that by signing this agreement, the Code also applies to any other parent or guardian of my child(ren). I am responsible for sharing this code of conduct with any other family member in attendance at a BTB practice or game and requiring that family member to abide by its conditions and rules.
