ShouldBee partnered with comic book artist Tim Seeley to create the first-ever collectible based on Cassie, a character from his best-selling Image Comics series, Hack/Slash. Fans across the world have been reading Cassie’s adventures since 2004. Since then, Hack/Slash has expanded into a slew of trade paperbacks, a stage play, an upcoming film, and even a crossover with the Suicide Girls.
Our challenge was to create a 6-inch collectible worthy of Tim’s creation by capturing Cassie’s darkly playful personality with meticulous detail. The Journey: Our journey began in two dimensions when Tim provided us with the 2D artwork that would serve as the basis for Cassie’s 3D render. Beyond the initial artwork, ShouldBee and Tim worked with a female model to translate Cassie’s anatomy in a realistic manner. Based on the 2D artwork and model pictures, ShouldBee’s artists created a series of 3D renders. The first renders focused on defining Cassie’s basic pose and musculature while later renders added color and exact details like the “Kiss It” engraving on her bat. In each step of the journey, Tim advised us to make sure all of the design elements were true to his character.

After a few weeks, we finalized Cassie’s render and proceeded to the 3D printing stage. The 3D printer created the sandstone figurine via additive manufacturing to match every detail in the final render.
