>> Sophomores Khadeen Carrington (23) and Isaiah Whitehead (20) each went for 20+-points for the secondstraight day as the Pirates upended second-seeded and fifth-ranked Xavier, 87-83, in the semifinal round to earn a trip to the BIG EAST Tournament title game. >> With the win over Xavier, The Hall advanced to its third BIG EAST Tournament final and first since 1993. Seton Hall came out on top in its two previous trips to the championship game, defeating Georgetown, 74-62, in 1991 and posting a 103-70 victory over Syracuse in 1993. The Pirates’ 33-point blowout of the Orangemen still stands as the largest margin of victory in title game history. >> The Pirates are in the midst of an 11-2 stretch that has followed a loss at XU in the first installment of the season series on January 23. SHU enters Saturday with an RPI of 23 and now boasts a postseason resume that features nine victories against RPI Top-100 opponents - including four ranked foes - without a loss to a team outside the RPI Top-100 >> During that span, Whitehead has averaged 22.1 ppg, 5.8 apg and 4.8 rpg while shooting 48.4 percent from downtown (46-of-95). Carrington has averaged 14.1 ppg during the same stretch while Desi Rodriguez has posted 12.9 ppg on 50 percent shooting (60-of-120) and Angel Delgado has racked up 11.4 ppg and 9.7 rpg.

>> Saturday’s showdown between SHU and Villanova will mark the fifth time that the two teams have met at the BIG EAST Tournament and the third time in those games that VU will enter as the top seed. The squads have split four previous meetings with the last three decided by two points or less. Seton Hall claimed the most recent meeting, 64-63, in the 2014 quarterfinals

>> Xavier entered Friday’s matchup as the fifth-ranked team in the nation and the Pirates have now recorded two wins over a Musketeers squad ranked inside the top-five in the span of two weeks after racing past No. 5 Xavier, 90-81, at Prudential Center on February 28. It is the first time in program history that The Hall has downed two AP top-five opponents in the same season.

PREVIOUS BIG EAST TOURNAMENT MEETINGS 1982 Quarterfinal: #1 VU 88, #8 SHU 73 1991 Semifinal: #4 SHU 74 #8 VU 72 2004 First Round: #11 VU 61, #6 SHU 60 2014 Quarterfinal: #8 SHU 64 #1 VU 63 >> Whitehead and Carrington were instrumental as the Pirates challenged Villanova in both regular season meetings. The two sophomores combined for 72 of the team’s 134 total points in the two games with averages of 20.5 ppg and 15.5 ppg respectively. Classmate Desi Rodriguez also posted 10.5 ppg against the Wildcats this season while Angel Delgado shot 54.5 percent from the floor (6-of-11) in the two meetings
>> The Pirates entered the season with just five wins against AP top-five foes in program history and a victory over No. 3 Villanova Saturday would guive them three such wins for the season and mark the fourth time SHU has taken down an AP top-five opponent in the Kevin Willard era >> Seton Hall also previously bested then-No. 12 Providence, 81-72, on the road on January 16. It is the first time that SHU has notched three wins against AP top-12 opponents in the same season since 1991-92 and just the third time in program history (1988-89) that the Pirates have accomplished the feat. >> SHU has now won multiple games at the BIG EAST Tournament twice in the last three years under 2015-16 Co-BIG EAST Coach of the Year Kevin Willard. The Pirates had not won multiple games at the conference tournament since 2001 prior to the stretch. >> The win was the fourth for The Hall against a top-two seed at the BIG EAST Tournament in program history. Seton Hall is now 3-4 against the No. 2 seed but the most recent such victory came when the Pirates knocked off top-seeded Villanova, 64-63, in the 2014 quarterfinals. >> Carrington and Whitehead are well positioned to join a list of nine former Pirates who have combined to earn All-BIG EAST Tournament honors 11 times. Eugene Teague was the last to make his way onto the AllTournament Team after powering eighth-seeded SHU to the 2014 semifinals while Terry Dehere (92, 93) and Ramon Ramos (88, 89) are the only two-time selections in Seton Hall history. Dehere (1993) and Oliver Taylor (1991) are the only Pirates ever to receive the Dave Gavitt Trophy as Tournament MVP.

POST-GAME
>> Whitehead reached the 20-point mark for the sixth consecutive game and the 10th time in the last 12 outings. Whitehead has posted 20+-points a total of 15 times this season and Friday represented the ninth time he has also handed out at least five assists in those games >> The backcourt tandem of Brooklyn natives has now each topped the 20-point mark in the same game in two consecutive outings at the BIG EAST Tournament after doing so just once during the regular season (vs. Georgia, 11/28). Whitehead (44) and Carrington (50) have combined for 94 points en route to the tournament final and a total of 144 over the last three games >> With 87 points, the Pirates racked up their highest single game total at the BIG EAST Tournament since finishing with 109 in a first round victory over Providence in 2010. It is the third time SHU has scored 87 points in a BIG EAST Tournament contest and the figure stands as the fourth-highest single game total in Seton Hall’s history at the event >> The Hall improved to 9-0 when scoring at least 80 points this season and 18-5 when scoring 70 or more. SHU is also now 20-0 this year when leading at halftime and 24-0 when building a lead as large as seven at any point in the game.
Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard will be available for interviews following a post-game cooling off period. The Seton Hall locker room is not open to the media, but a separate area will be designated for player interviews.

INSIDE LOOK INSIDE LOOK
• Kris Jenkins (21), Josh Hart (15), and Ryan Arcidiacono (12) all scored in double-figures as regular season champions Villanova earned the right to defend their conference tournament crown with a 76- 68 win over No. 4 Providence Friday • The win avenged one of only two conference losses the Wildcats sustained during the regular season and Jenkins’ 21-point effort marked the seventh game in-a-row that either he or All-BIG EAST First Team honoree Josh Hart has led the team in scoring
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
• Last season, VU won its second conference tournament title in program history and first since 1995. The Wildcats are seeking to become the first team to repeat as BIG EAST Tournament champions since Louisville in 2012 and 2013 • Villanova took two from The Hall in the regular season but the Pirates totaled more field goals (45/43) and just one less 3-pointer (13/14) across the two games. The difference came at the foul line where VU out-scored SHU, 44-to-31, on 13 more total attempts in the season series (58/45) • Villanova head coach Jay Wright and Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard each earned a share of the BIG EAST Coach of the Year award this season. Willard led Seton Hall past Villanova when the teams last met at the BIG EAST Tournament (2014 quarterfinals, 64-63) and the Pirates are looking to earn their third win over ‘Nova in as many years despite VU’s 53-7 mark against BIG EAST opponents over that span. The Hall topped then-No. 6 Villanova, 66-61, in overtime at home last season (1/3/15)
