Block Construction Block 1 – Five Patch Chain

Stitch the corner 4-patch units:

1. Sew a Fabric F 2 7/8” square to a Fabric B 2 7/8” square. Press to the Fabric B.

2. Sew a Fabric B 2 7/7” square to a Fabric E 2 7/8” square. Press to the Fabric B.

3. Matching center seams, stitch the Fabric F/B unit to the Fabric B/E unit. Repeat to make (26) four patch units, paying attention to color placement. Sew the block:

4. Sew a four patch unit to a Fabric A 2 7/8” x 5 ¼” rectangle. Press to the Fabric A rectangle. Sew a four patch on the opposite side, again pressing to the Fabric A rectangle. Note the placement of the Fabric E (white) fabric. Repeat to make (14) sets.

5. Sew a Fabric A 2 7/8” x 5 ¼” rectangle to either side of a Fabric F 2 7/8” square, pressing to the Fabric A rectangle. Repeat to make (7) sets. 6. Sew a unit created in Step 4 to the rectangle unit created in Step 5. Press to the rectangle unit.

7. Sew another Step 4 unit to the opposite side of the block. Repeat to make (5) full blocks and (2) partial blocks. *It is recommended that you wait until completing the blocks AND piecing the quilt center before trimming the excess.

Block 2 – Five Patch Shoo Fly

Half Square Triangles 1. Sew a Fabric F HST to a Fabric E HST. Make (56) HST units. 2. Sew a Fabric B 2 7/8” x 5 ¼” rectangle to either side of a Fabric D 2 7/8” square.

3. Sew a Fabric F/E HST to either side of a Fabric B 2 7/8” x 5 ¼” rectangle, noting placement of Fabric E in the HST unit. Repeat to make (24) full units and (8) partial units (one HST unit to one rectangle). 4. Sew a Fabric B/D/B rectangle unit to (2) Fabric F/E units created in Step 3 to create (8) full Shoo Fly blocks and (8) partial Shoo Fly blocks.

Partial Shoo Fly Block *It is recommended that you wait until completing the blocks AND piecing the quilt center before trimming the excess.

Putting the Quilt Center Together 1. This quilt is put together on the diagonal. Using the diagram as a guide, put the quilt together in rows as shown: Row One: Partial Shoo Fly Block, QST Fabric C Row Two: Partial Shoo Fly Block, Five Patch Chain Block, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, Partial Five Patch Chain Block Row Three: Partial Shoo Fly Block, 12 ½” Fabric C Block, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, 12 ½” Fabric C Block, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, QST Fabric C Row Four: Partial Shoo Fly Block, Five Patch Chain Block, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, Five Patch Chain Block, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, Five Patch Chain Block, Partial Five Patch Chain Block Row Five: QST Fabric C, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, 12 ½” Fabric C Block, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, 12 ½” Fabric C Block, Partial Shoo Fly Block Row Six: Partial Five Patch Chain Block, Five Patch Shoo Fly Block, Five Patch Chain Block, Partial Shoo Fly Block Row Seven: QST Fabric C, Partial Shoo Fly Block

Adding Borders

1. All the borders and binding strips are treated in the same manner. First trim the selvedge edges from the WOF strips. Stitch together according to size to create (1) long strip of each. Then trim to size. 2. The border strips are then added to the left and right edges, followed by the top and bottom edges.

3. Once border strips have been prepared, trim and add in the following order, pressing away from the quilt center as you go: Trim to: Add to: Fabric B:

Finish the Quilt

1. Cut the backing fabric into (2) 94” long pieces.

2. Using a ¼” – ½” seam allowance, sew the two pieces of backing fabric together, along the long side. Press the seam open. 3. Center and lay the batting on top of the wrong side of the backing fabric 4. Center and lay the pieced quilt top on top of the batting.

5. Pin or baste the quilt sandwich using your preferred method for securing the layers. 6. Quilt as desired.

7. Trim the edges of your quilt.

8. Use the Fabric D binding strips to bind the quilt.
