Luxury Galapagos Cruise & Ecuador March 14, - 24, 2014

“In conclusion, it appears that nothing can be more improving to a young naturalist, than a journey in distant countries.” ― Charles Darwin, Voyage of the Beagle

Get ready to embark on your own journey of discovery and get lost in the enchantment of the Galapagos Islands! Your departure to Quito is quickly approaching, where you will enjoy two nights in the city before taking flight to Baltra Island to board Celebrity’s Expedition. The Islands provide the perfect backdrop that will lend to your own self-discovery. With this voyage and the company of your new Singles Travel International friends, we want to make this vacation one of the best experiences in your life. We have an intimate group of 8 travelers, so in lieu of a Singles Travel International Concierge, Debbie Schmidt has generously volunteered to be your STI Ambassador for during a Welcome and a Farewell cocktail hour. She will be available to greet you and initially organize our group. Please note that Debbie is, as you are, a fully paying guest and not a travel director. Any concerns should be directed to your capable and professional staff onboard the Celebrity Expedition. Please read over this information carefully along with your Guest Ticket Booklet, which will be arriving by E-mail.

What if? What happens if you get a flat tire on the way to the airport, an unwelcome bug decides to hit you with a nasty cold before or during your cruise, you have to cancel your vacation to take care of a loved one or strain a muscle while touring on the island? Last minute conflicts and incidents occur all too often with members. If an unexpected event causes a change of plans, you are able to recoup your investment if your vacation is protected. Please call Robin Zell today at (877) 765-6874 Ext.704 to purchase our trip protection package. It’s more reasonable than you think!

Passports and Visas A passport is mandatory for this cruise. Be sure to confirm that your passport is current and will be valid at least six months after your departure (September 24, 2014). If you do not have one or need a new one, U.S. guests may contact the State Department Passport Office in your area immediately or visit http://www.travel.state.gov/.

Airport If we’ve made your flight arrangements, you received an e-ticket confirmation at the time of booking. We recommend that you print your boarding pass from the airline website 24 hours prior to departure. It is required that you check in at the airport two hours before departure, and you present your valid Passport.

Creating life-changing experiences and unique opportunities to meet the world…together!!! 2

At the airport, you may change your original seat assignment, and this is the best time to do it for all flights continuing on the same day. Verify that the airline has a record of your frequent flier number on the reservation. Abide by the airline’s carry-on luggage restrictions, and note that all liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. All items must be stored in a clear, 1 quart, zip lock bag.

Baggage Major airlines have varying policies regarding checked baggage. We recommend that you visit your carrier’s website or call them directly for up-to-date information about baggage allowance, weight restrictions and fees. Currently, most airlines will allow you to check two bags, weighing 50 pounds each, for a fee. In addition you may carry-on one bag plus a personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Please check with your air carrier for up-to-the minute regulations and fees for checked baggage. There is no baggage limit onboard ship or in Quito. However, there is a weight limit for the small plane that will take the group to Baltra from Quito. Please note that the domestic air flight segment from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra Island has a baggage weight limit of 40 lbs of checked luggage and 14 lbs of carry-on per person. If you are arriving early or continuing your travels after the cruise and have additional luggage; you may be able to store extra baggage at the JW Marriott. On sailing date, since the luggage may not be delivered to your cabin for several hours, we strongly recommend that you pack a change of clothing in your carry-on luggage. Do not pack money, travel documents, jewelry or medicine in your checked baggage. Hand carry these essential items!

Delayed Luggage In the event that your checked luggage is delayed upon arrival, please make your claim with a representative from your arrival carrier, prior to leaving the baggage claim area. Complete the appropriate paperwork to allow them to trace your luggage, get a copy of the report and request a contact number. Once you have completed the claim, inform the hotel staff of the situation, so they are to expect the delivery.

Transportation to and from the Ship Transportation between the airport and Quito Marriott is included in our price, providing you arrive and depart on tour begin and end dates. If you have elected to make your own air arrangements you will need to arrive into Quito on Friday. Anyone deviating from the tour start date will forfeit their complimentary arrival transfer and need to arrange for their own arrival transfer to the hotel. Upon arrival into Quito you will need to collect your checked luggage and clear Customs and Immigrations. As you exit the Customs Hall you will be met by a Celebrity Xpeditions representative who will assist you with transportation to your hotel. We have reserved transportation for the following flights. If your information needs to be updated or we are missing your flight for your booked transportation, please contact us immediately at [email protected].

*GENERAL INFORMATION* Weather and Attire The average daytime temperature for the Galapagos in the spring varies from 70s to 80s. The Galapagos are at a higher altitude than most travelers' home city. Be prepared for cool evenings and a much hotter sun. Not only are we higher, we are very close to the Equator. Bring along spring/summer clothing and we recommend that you mix and match using 1-3 colors, such as khaki, brown and white that you may layer if necessary. Comfortable hiking shoes are a must. Bring a fleece sweatshirt for those chilly evenings.

Check http://www.weather.com/ before you leave for the most recent weather updates.

Packing Tips 3 must have items: A hat, long sleeved T-shirts for extended hours on tour in the sun (there are no shaded areas on the islands) and finally, a pair of Keen walking shoes, ideal for rocky, water landings. www.keenfootwear.com Remember that you are allowed only 44 lbs. checked and 17 lbs. carry on, so take only what you need; don't over pack. Save room for souvenirs and purchases. Pack flat and full to avoid wrinkling. Essential Items: We highly recommend that you bring the following items. 

A good, comfortable pair of broken-in walking shoes/ boots - www.keenfootwear.com

     

A pair of shoes for restaurants (loafers, sandals, etc) A bathing suit Lightweight raingear, poncho Sunglasses, sun block (30 or higher for face), sun hat, baseball cap or visor Toiletries: all your daily essentials Prescription medications: sufficient supply for the entire trip plus legible written prescription in case of loss. Keep medications in their original, labeled container. Always pack your medications in your carryon bag! Eyeglasses, contacts, contact lens solution. You may want to bring along a written prescription for your eyewear in case of loss. Over the counter medications: cold remedy, aspirin/pain reliever, antacid/stomach upset remedy, BandAids, anti-bacterial medication, Dramamine (if prone to motion sickness), Neosporin, anti-itch cream. Mosquito repellant Travel alarm clock with illuminated face Small, Swiss Army type utility knife. Remember to pack this in your checked luggage! Travel journal/notepad and reading material Home address book for sending postcards. A useful tip to avoid bringing your entire address book is to pre-write names and addresses of people to whom you want to send postcards on sheets of self-adhesive labels. It saves time and space in your luggage. Small, basic sewing kit with a few extra buttons. Remember to pack scissors in your checked bag! Money/Exchange The currency used throughout is the US Dollar. It is a good idea to notify your credit card provider that you will be making onboard charges as well as charges out of the country, to avoid potential problems. In Ecuador, it is very difficult to shop with or change bills of higher denomination than $20 due to counterfeiting. It is often difficult to receive $1.00 bills in change (you instead are given large dollar coins). We recommend bringing at least $25.00 in one dollar bills and at least ten-five dollar bills. In general, the smaller the bills, the better. Traveler checks are recommended if you are traveling with a good amount of money. American Express checks are the most common and may be exchanged at most major banks and high-end hotels. Be sure to change travelers’ checks in Quito. Credit Cards: Your credit card will be accepted to settle your onboard charges and in major shops and restaurants.

Electrical Current The electric current in Quito and onboard the Xpedition, is 110 volt (same as US).

Internet Connection and Staying in Touch Internet access aboard the Expedition is approximately .50-.75 cents per minute, depending on the package you purchase (often extremely slow). To easily communication while onboard and in Ecuador rent an international cell phone - click here to learn more. You may also be able to use your own phone plan, generally .99-1.99 per minute (check before departure). If you choose to use your own phone plan, note that your provider may charge up to $5 per voicemail messages received while onboard if received by satellite. We recommend that you keep your phone on airplane mode while at sea to avoid these charges. Check with your phone provider for specific International plans and details.

Emergency Contact After March 16th, you’re actually only a phone call away in the event of an emergency. Please copy this information and distribute it to anyone who might need to reach you while you’re aboard Celebrity Xpedition®. The cost is $7.95 per minute and may be charged to an American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Diner’s Club or Discover card. To contact someone onboard: From the U.S., dial 1-203-346-2913.
