About Hobart and William Smith Colleges

Hobart and William Smith Colleges are private, liberal arts institutions located in Geneva, N.Y.—the heart of the Finger Lakes Region. William Smith College for women and Hobart College for men share faculty, facilities and curriculum but maintain separate deans’ offices, athletic programs, student governments and traditions. The Colleges, which have a combined enrollment of 2,272, offer a remarkably broad array of majors and minors with a cross-disciplinary flavor intended to better inform both professional and intellectual pursuits. The Colleges also are noted for an ambitious emphasis on international study and their programs in community service.

The William Smith Herons

Separate and distinct from their Hobart counterparts, William Smith student-athletes have their own nickname, mascot, organizational structure and budget. The resulting sense of identity and purpose for Heron athletes is unique in the world of women’s college athletics, and is matched by institutional commitment of the resources necessary to give each athlete the opportunity to reach her potential and each team to compete at the highest possible level. In fact, Sports Illustrated for Women recognized William Smith as one of the top small-college athletics programs for women in the United States.

The objective of the William Smith golf program is to provide a highly competitive intercollegiate experience in a selective liberal arts college environment. The cornerstone of William Smith golf is the commitment to developing the complete player. Student-athletes must possess the self-discipline to maintain their fitness and skills throughout the year, be open to improving their technical and tactical skills, and willing to compete in an environment in which personal responsibility is the foundation for individual and team improvement. Successful players in the William Smith system must be willing to constantly challenge themselves and be open to innovative approaches to the game.
