Notes on an Obsession HOLIDAY SEASON WISH LIST Chapter I by Olivier Dupon

1

This is a special edition of our monthly ‘Notes on an Obsession’ column, one to celebrate the Holiday Season in style and curate a few marvellous gift ideas for her and him. I have kept the same intent as when writing a ‘Notes on an Obsession’ article; that is, unveiling beautiful one-of-a-kind or limited edition designs; however, this time I have widened my selection to include objets d’art, accessories and lifestyle goods. I had a fantastic time curating the following catalogue for you since my prime interest, as always, has been in perfect craftsmanship in all its functional or decorative applications. In each of the following spreads, high and fine jewels are paired with exquisite products from leading or emerging designers. This Holiday Season Wish List will consist of two complementary issues, Chapter I in November and Chapter II in December. Do not hesitate to contact the designers or brands directly, should an item spark your interest, and last but not least let me wish you and your loved ones the most wonderful time in the lead-up to the close of 2017. Yours truly, Olivier Dupon

Chapter 1 Nov. 2017

The Art of de GRISOGONO, Creation I features a 163.41-carat D-colour Type IIA diamond of Flawless clarity that is mounted on an asymmetric necklace (left) as the centrepiece, trailing on the left side 18 emerald-cut diamonds and to the right two rows of pear-shaped emeralds. No gold is visible between the emeralds as each gem is perfectly matched with its neighbour and the metal is darkened to create the chiaroscuro effect that is so characteristic of the high jeweller. The diamond can also be detached and mounted on a galuchat cuff (right) set with diamonds and emeralds. The necklace & cuff (and its extraordinary centre diamond - the largest diamond of this type to ever come to auction) will be offered in the Magnificent Jewels auction by Christie’s taking place on 14 November in Geneva at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues. www.degrisogono.com www.christies.com
