Your 4-H Adventure Starts When You Join the Club! How 4-H Works:
4-H clubs are groups of families that work with Extension Educators to share knowledge and interests that help youth learn practical skills and important values. 4-H clubs generally meet bi-weekly, providing youth opportunities to share their project work, plan community service activities, and practice running meetings. Orange County 4-H also offers county-wide specialized clubs, which some youth join in addition to their local 4-H Club. Members choose from a wide range of individual projects, based on their interests. Through these projects, members set goals, learn the skills needed to achieve goals, and exhibit/demonstrate their skills at events like the annual Orange County 4-H Showcase, Public Presentations, STEM / Engineering Challenges and Fairs, as well as district and state-level competitions. 4-H is run by the land grant university in each state, which is why Orange County 4-H is managed by the Educators and staff of Cornell University Cooperative Extension.
Cloverbuds (ages 5 - 7). Emphasis is on participation, learning
and teamwork, not competition. Cloverbuds provide opportunities for older youth to mentor and help younger 4-H’ers be successful, and start laying the groundwork for their future “career” as a 4-H member. With Cloverbuds, safety comes first, and all of the activities are developmentally appropriate for this age group.
4-H Members (ages 8 - 18).
Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H youth programs connect kids to the resources of Cornell University and the land-grant system, strengthening the next generation of inventors, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers. Activities and events inspire and shape youth, give them opportunities to master skills, enrich their knowledge, and work with others who can positively influence them.
Teens (age 13+). Orange County 4-H offers teens numerous countywide activities, events and specialized clubs, including: Teen Leadership & Career Development, STEM Teen Leaders, 4-H State-Wide Leadership Opportunities:, Capital Days, Career Explorations at Cornell University, State Teen Ambassador Representatives Retreat.
