GROUP LEADER
I PROMISE TO BE HOSPITABLE. I commit to being friendly, warm and welcoming by giving access to my home and family. —John 13:35
TO MAKE ROOM FOR PEOPLE TO BE WHO THEY ARE AND MEET THEM THERE. I realize some people may be at different places on their spiritual journey. I will ask for God to lead me as I lead each person. —1 Corinthians 3:7
TO BE A SPIRITUAL LEADER. I recognize I’m not just a “host” for this group. I will take the lead in being vulnerable, sharing my story, praying, and discipling our group to look more like Jesus. I will seek God’s direction and regularly discern where people are with God and help them move to the next place spiritually. —Mark 10:42–45
TO PRACTICE THE SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES so that Christ becomes strengthened in me. This includes but is not limited to Bible reading, prayer, tithing, fasting, solitude, etc. —1 Corinthians 9:25
TO USE THE BIBLE AS MY ULTIMATE STANDARD OF TRUTH. It is God’s word and is more accurate than my culture, opinions, feelings, passions and perspectives. —2 Timothy 3:16–17
TO LIVE A GODLY LIFE IN PARALLEL WITH THE BIBLE’S TEACHINGS. This includes, but is not limited to: drug and alcohol abuse, same sex and/or extra-marital sex, violent actions, greed, slander, control, etc. —1 Peter 1:14–16
TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE PERSON I HAVE A CONCERN WITH PRIOR TO ENLISTING SUPPORT FROM OTHER PEOPLE. If after the initial difficult conversation, I still don’t feel right, I will ask someone who might feel the same way if they will go with me to resume the difficult conversation. If after that interaction I haven’t been satisfied then I will find a person in a position of leadership and seek their guidance. —Matthew 18:15–17
TO TRUST THOSE IN AUTHORITY OVER ME. I will remember that when a decision is made I may not have all of the information nor the responsibility of those in leadership. I will not be a burden to authorities and leaders in the church. —Hebrews 13:17
TO FOLLOW-THROUGH ON MY COMMITMENTS AND FULLY ENGAGE WITH CROSSROADS GROUP LEADER STUFF. I will attend required trainings, respond to emails about my group, train others to lead, etc. I realize that when I don’t do what I said I would do, I dishonor God and those in my community. —Matthew 5:37
TO PRAY FOR THE MEMBERS OF MY GROUP. I realize that one of the most important ways I can support the people in my group is to pray for them. —Philippians 4:6
