I Still Have a Hope!

Haiti eventy-three-year-old Osner in Segur, Haiti, is going through difficult times. Two months ago, his wife died and he now lives with one of his children. Shortly after his wife’s death, thieves stole the five beef cows he looked forward to selling for greatly needed cash. Through the community, CAM staff soon heard of Osner’s needs and added him to the Help-for-the-Elderly (HFTE) food parcel program. When he received his first food parcel, Osner stated, “Even though I have lost a lot, I still have a hope in Jesus!” The food, healthcare items, cash, and Christian literature are truly a blessing for Osner in his devastation. Liceny Romelus, also from Segur, Haiti, has been a widow for fourteen years. At sixty-two, she has no source of income and depends on her only son for food and shelter. The January 2010 earthquake destroyed the house where Liceny lived with her son and his family. Their only option was to build a makeshift house out of the scrap tin from the roof of their destroyed house. Although life is difficult for Liceny and her family, they have hope with the help of their monthly HFTE food parcels. Liceny says, “Thank you and God bless you” to the

CAM moorefield building update

W

ith a roof over our heads and a floor beneath our feet, we are blessed with God’s goodness! October brought pleasing progress to the CAM Moorefield Building (Reapers of Hope) project. The new building is framed and the roof is on. A hearty thank you to the 45 volunteers who helped put up the roof trusses. We also appreciated the volunteer crane services that lifted the trusses. A delay in the arrival of the steel meant that we could not finish the roof until almost a week later, but we are grateful that it is now completed. The roof on the existing building also needs to be replaced, but we are presently waiting on the engineer’s report before we can proceed. The floor in the existing building was insulated and floor heating tubes were installed. Then a cement contractor, with volunteer help, poured the new floor. Presently, we are working on the floor in the new building. With the on-going progress in the new building, and the new siding, windows and roof needed in the existing building. We continue to need volunteers, and will also be open Saturdays. If you come with a group of six or more, please contact Clarence Brubacher at 519-669-2943. If you wish to give financial support, please note CAM Moorefield Building Project on the inserted response coupon, or contact the office if you wish to contribute in a loan: 519-664-3999.

Two thousand people Groups wait to hear! by Joel Martin, founder and board member of ABT

M

ore than 2,000 unreached people groups remain without a single verse of scripture in their language. When contemplating the magnitude of this unfinished task, the words of our Lord Jesus leap to mind: “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” By what means will these multitudes hear and believe the message of the Gospel? Paul once asked a similar question, “How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?” Romans 10:17 tells us plainly, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” All-Nations Bible Translation (ABT) is laying a foundation for Bible translation and church planting among the unreached. Within the past fifteen months, individuals began the application process to become members in training. While this article is being written, a three-member team is beginning an exploratory trip within the Islands of Indonesia. ABT plans to launch their first training camp in the fall of 2013. This will include five courses in addition to the trainee’s prior study of Greek, Hebrew, and linguistics. We also want to consider plans for a permanent training camp and office facility. How can you get involved? Please join us in any way the Lord directs—praying, going, or giving. These are all necessary parts of bringing God’s Word to the many who have never heard. To help provide the Bible in more unreached languages, CAM is supporting All-Nations Bible Translation. This conservative Anabaptist-based organization, formed in 2009, will coordinate Bible translation with a goal to also establish indigenous churches that will utilize these scriptures. If you would like to help support the work of translating the Bible into the languages of unreached people groups, please note Bibles-for-the-World on the enclosed response coupon or sponsorship sheet. ture without special permission from the government. In June 2012 three elderly persons from another church were on their way to a village to visit some of the believers. As they traveled, they gave out New Testaments (financed by CAM) and other booklets. They were offering literature to a young man when the police apprehended them and took them to the police station. The officers questioned them about who sent them and where they got the literature. These disturbances come to the believers as a direct result of the literature they receive. When these Azerbaijani Christians receive the tools to evangelize, they are eager to share, even though they may suffer for it. Christian literature is scarce in a country like Azerbaijan. With supporters’ funds, CAM has already provided 5,000 Azeri New Testaments, 5,000 Azeri 25 Favorite Stories from the Bible, and 3,000 25 Favorite Stories from the Bible in the Udi language. We are currently translating the 101 Favorite Stories from the Bible into Azeri and hope to have it available in the near future. We praise God for the opportunities he has provided for the distribution of Christian literature in Azerbaijan. Despite opposition from the government, God’s Word is being shared and the church of Jesus Christ continues to grow.

Taking Risks to Share God's Word

I

n Azerbaijan, Christians pay a price to spread the Gospel. They risk arrests and fines, yet continue to ask for more Christian literature to distribute. In a village in northeastern Azerbaijan is a growing church, made up of believers who are all from Muslim backgrounds. Local authorities view them suspiciously and look for ways to harass them and hinder their witness. Nevertheless, these believers continue to share their faith, preaching in neighboring villages and giving out literature, including books from CAM. On May 13, 2012, their efforts were rewarded when eight new believers came to Christ. Three days later, however, three brothers from the church were arrested and taken to the police station because they were telling people about Christ and giving free literature to those who wanted it. Although the men were released after several hours, the officials confiscated their literature and opened a criminal case against them. They charged them with preaching and distributing litera-

Would you like to help provide Bibles and Christian literature to people in Azerbaijan and other countries? W

hen CAM delivered a load of clothing and comforters to a church in southern Romania, the pastor cried tears of joy. He helped distribute the items evenly among the church members. One elderly man Ioan said, “I don’t own any clothes as good as the ones you gave me!” The clothing was sewed by various sewing centers. CAM supporters supply six sewing centers in Romania with donated fabric, sewing machines, and funds to cover operating expenses. Many women learn to sew at these centers and take home a fourth of what they produce. The rest is distributed among other needy people in the area. Many of the women use this avenue to provide for the clothing needs of their families. Vasile, who oversees our Sewing Center project in Romania, says, “We use every piece of material. We don’t throw anything away. Everything is given away; nothing is sold.” If you would like to help ship fabric and supplies to CAM sewing centers in Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, please note Sewing Centers on the enclosed response coupon.

sponsors who make it possible for her to survive. Romania The HFTE program is also greatly benefiting the elderly in Romania, one of whom is Maria Barnea. She tries to earn a living by raising vegetables and a few chickens. Although she receives a monthly government pension of $45 USD, it is not enough to pay for the medication she needs for her heart problems. Maria may lack material things, but she is full of faith and love for God and the church. A brother from her congregation commented, “Today in our church, if there is any repentance and faith in God, it is because of her example.” Widow Viorica Bardalache from Suceava receives a food parcel every other month. Her only child still at home is mentally handicapped, and her other children who have left home lack the finances to support their mother. For suffering, elderly people like Maria, Liceny, Viarica and Osner, the food, healthcare items, and cash in the HFTE boxes help make their difficult lives a little easier. Thank you, supporters, for your part in providing hope for these needy people! Many elderly people are suffering in Romania, Haiti, and Liberia. Would you like to help make their lives a little easier with a food parcel? Please note Help-for-the-Elderly on the enclosed response coupon or sponsorship sheet.

Maria Barnea is grateful for the food parcel, comforter, and clothing provided by Help-for-the-Elderly supporters.

Help for Siah Tamba

O

ne day, during the 1990’s civil war in Liberia, Siah Tamba was inside her house when she heard gunshots. Suddenly an agonizing pain flashed through her leg. A stray bullet! The damage was severe; her leg needed to be amputated. Siah and her four children, along with her mother, moved to another county into a tumble down shack. She asked CAM for help and church brethren built her a strong mud brick house with funds from Hope-for-theHandicapped. “I am very thankful for my new house where I can stay dry and care for my children.” Siah says with a happy smile. If you would like to supply food, wheelchairs, and other aid to handicapped people of all ages, please note Gifts-that-Grow on the enclosed response coupon or sponsorship sheet.
