A study at the University of Colorado Boulder found that children who spend more time just playing, as opposed to going to scheduled lessons and practices, exhibited a stronger ability to control their emotions and actions. “Less structure allows kids to make decisions and set goals for themselves,” explains study author Yuko Munakata, Ph.D.
