Marilyn Jean Harrold, 76, West Fargo, ND died Monday, July 31, 2017 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Jean was born in Anderson, IN on April 12, 1941. Her parents, John Paul Garrigus and Hazel Parthena (Forbes) Garrigus, were teachers and Jean joined that profession after graduating from Indiana State University. Jean taught in Indiana, Ohio, and North Dakota. She enjoyed teaching new American students and those with special needs and challenges. Jean married Robert “Bob” Harrold on September 4, 1965. Their three children: Patrick (Lauri), Ericka Balken and Bonnie Knighton were born in Fargo and graduated from West Fargo High School. She enjoyed cooking and a favorite pastime was reading cookbooks and cooking magazines. She also enjoyed flower gardens, auctions, and collecting antiques. Her favorite flowers were iris and she enjoyed the loons on various lakes. She is survived by her husband Bob and their three children. Jean is also survived by five grandchildren: Katie Harrold, of Coon Rapids, MN, Jacob, Reygan and Chase Balken, all of Rothsay, MN, and Victoria Knighton, of Charleston, SC along with her brother, Robert (Martha Sue) Garrigus of Richmond, VA and several cousins, nieces and nephews that reside in Indiana. Jean received compassionate and considerate care from several resources that include Essentia Health and the West Fargo Clinic, Ethos, Griswald and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
