In support of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, INCA Head Start staff did their part to spread awareness with several activities in April. Educating Head Start staff, parents, and families on child abuse is key to ensuring the welfare of children in our community. INCA Head Start promotes strong, nurturing communities that are supportive of families so all can get involved and play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect and promoting child and family well-being. INCA’s Area Supervisors did a great job engaging everyone on this topic by providing professionals the opportunity to speak at parent meetings. INCA utilizes its strong collaboration with the Department of Human Services Child Welfare staff, to help ensure our goal of keeping all children safe and happy is successful.

Pictured at the top is CNCS representatives from both Senior Corps and AmeriCorps during Young’s proclamation. On April 18th Congressman Tom Cole made a visit to Ardmore for a town hall meeting. RSVP staff were in attendance for the meeting and were granted some time to speak with the Congressman afterward along with representative from the local AmeriCorps program to discuss the importance of National Service in our local community and the investment of our continued collaboration. The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) is an observation instrument that assesses the quality of teacher-child interactions in cen t er - b ase d pres ch oo l c lassrooms. CLASS includes three domains or categories of teacher-child interactions that support children's learning and development: emotional support, classroom organization, and instructional support. Within each domain are dimensions which capture more specific details about teachers' interactions with children. INCA applauds Deb and Pam’s commitment and hard work in this process and is very proud of their achievement. Pictured Top: Deb Hook Pictured Below: Pam Springer

Call 811 Before You Dig Spring has finally sprung! In this warmer weather, you might be eager to head outside to finish up some outdoor projects you've been putting off all winter. But if any of those projects involve digging, there's an important call you need to make before you dig: a call to 811. April is National Safe Digging Month and the perfect time to refresh your knowledge about safe digging practices. To prevent injury, damage and service outages, it's imperative that all underground utility lines be identified before any digging project begins. One phone call to 811 from wherever you are will route your call to Okie 811, which will alert owners of pipelines, telecommunication cables and power lines to mark their buried assets within two full business days of the request. There's no charge to you for this service. You may also submit a locate request online by visiting www.okie811.org. Whether you're planting a tree, or tilling soil, installing a deck or sprinkler system or setting fence posts, always remember to call 811 at least two full business days before you plan to dig to allow all utility line locations to be marked. For more information about digging safety, visit the safety section of our website at www.oklahomanaturalgas.com Utility Graffiti - What does it mean? Have you ever seen lines spray-painted on the street or sidewalk and wondered what they were? It might not look very pretty, but this "utility graffiti" is actually there to prevent damage to property and make construction activities safer. Each color indicates a different type of buried asset, from natural gas pipelines to electric utilities and telecommunication cables. When a construction project is planned for a specific area, line locators mark all buried assets so workers know not to dig near the markings. While it may look just a mess of lines to you, "utility graffiti" is actually a very important safety precaution; and unlike other graffiti, these utility markings will fade after a few weeks.
