Our Very Own Myth Busters!
Busted campers started out the morning with a series of experiments including Glow Germ and Five Seconds to Gross. These experiments tested some everyday myths. For example, to debunk the five second rule students dropped food in several different conditions and then swabbed a petri dish with the bacteria to see if the five second rule prevailed, campers won’t get the results until later in the week. In the afternoon, more myths were busted including myths about tooth decay. To debunk this, students took shark’s teeth and put them in different liquids to see which decayed the teeth the most.
Science Joke of the Day! Q: Why can’t you trust atoms? A: They make up everything!

Infection camp started the day with an overview of infectious disease history. Students got assigned different diseases and gave a presentation of the infection’s symptoms, morbidity, and mortality. Later in the day, participants got a tour of the world-class Life Sciences building and got to observe and interact with different infectious agents. These agents included healthy ants, zombie ants, worms, rabbit feces, and mosquitoes. With a microscope, campers analyzed ants as a group and even got the chance to infect a healthy ant with the fungus that turns it into a zombie ant.

Water Wars Call for Water Heroes! Water Heroes started out their day with a trip to The Arboretum; while there, campers learned about the Pennsylvania watershed. Later in the day, students learned about contamination and how to determine where and if a sample of water was contaminated.
