How will I know if my child has SEN? As Parents– You may already have passed on your concerns to others who can help i.e. Health Visitor, G.P. At Pre-School– Playgroup, Nursery or childminders, others may have informed you that they had noticed some things were particularly challenging for your child. At School– Teachers and their assistants may find during their daily working contact that your child may need extra help in certain areas. Routine Screening—such as vision and hearing tests can provide important information, as can Assessments at school. A Graduated Response High Quality First Teaching— (Wave 1) Every attempt will be made by a class teacher to ensure that the needs of all of the children in their class are met through high quality first teaching. However, in some instances, some children may require SEN support through additional provision.

Stage 1– The child requires extra support from the class teacher and learning support assistant to benefit from the teaching and learning opportunities in school Stage 2– The child and his/her teachers require advice and support from outside agencies such as occupational therapy, speech and language therapy or the educational psychologist to make learning more accessible. Education, Health and Care Plan - the school, parents, , health care providers, social care providers, outside agencies and the local education authority examine and discuss any evidence that may indicate that the child will require longer periods of support and more specialised advice and intervention. Based on the advice and evidence an Education, Health and Care Plan may be put in place, this will be reviewed annually and may include a personalised budget for the child’s Education, Health and Care. Parents are involved in the decision process of how this budget should be best spent to support the child’s needs.

What happens at each stage High Quality First Teaching Teachers adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils, they know how and when to differentiate appropriately and use approaches which enable all pupils to learn effectively (see wave 1 provision under SEND inform ation on the school website) Stage 1 An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is drawn up by the class teacher after consulting with the parents and is put into action by the teacher and his/ her assistant. This is reviewed termly with parents. (See wave 2 provision under SEND inform ation on the school website) Stage 2 An SEN Support Plan is put together following a meeting with all involved parties. This is then implemented by the teacher and their learning support assistant, and reviewed with parents and any outside agencies termly. (see wave 3 provision under SEND information on the school website)

EHC Plan The SENCO manages the process of organising reports, liaison and meetings between all concerned parties to enable the consideration of an EHC plan being issued. An EHC plan is issued detailing the child’s needs, the support available to them and the type and source of funding. The plan is reviewed annually. At every step of the way the paren ts are inform ed an d consulted and invited to contribute with us to their child’s learning needs.
