Information Sheet -12s Club Team Tournament Information SCVA Tournaments: Southern California Volleyball Association is the national governing body for amateur volleyball in the Southern California Region. They run the tournaments usually at ASC (Anaheim Sports Center) or other facilities in Orange County. Most tournaments are one day and start at 8am and finish at 2pm. Occasionally there may be playoffs after 2pm on designated tournament dates which last until 4pm. Each team is seeded at the start of the season. Players will be asked to arrive 60 minutes before playing or 30 minutes before reffing. Teams will primarily play in a four team pool each competition. The 1st place team will advance up one division, the second and third place team remain in the same division and the fourth-place team drops down one division and so the season goes. Teams get points based on their finishes that result in an overall ranking for their respective age division in the Southern California Region. Spectator entry fees vary from $5-$10 and most venues offer paid parking from $5-$20 and free parking is available if you are willing to take a short walk. Be prepared to pay cash for both. Friendly Tournaments: These tourneys are non-sanctioned events that allow players to compete in a more casual atmosphere, generally held in San Diego with a start time of 8:30 am or 2:00 pm. Players compete against other teams of similar ability, and players and coaches officiate the games. These tournaments are a great way to introduce players to the skills and systems of 6-person volleyball without the pressure of rankings. Junior Boys Invitational: This is open to all ages and is held the weekend of January 5-7 at the San Diego Convention Center. This event is a qualifying tournament to enter the Junior Nationals which will be held in Phoenix Arizona. Teams begin play on Friday and end on Sunday. *12s and 13s don’t need to qualify for the Nationals as they only play in the club division which open to all in those age groups. Junior Nationals: All San Clemente Volleyball Club teams will compete in Junior Nationals July 2-9. This is a 3-4 day event depending on the age division. Exact competition dates and times will be released as we near the event. There are two divisions, Open and Club. To compete in the Open division, teams must qualify by receiving a bid based on results from the Junior Boys Classic or an at-large bid based on results and overall standing from the SCVA tournaments. All other teams will automatically play in the Club division. Check your tournament schedule online: All SCVA tourneys post their exact pool schedules online by Thursday the weekend of the tourney date. Please do not email your coaches asking for information prior to this. Tourney dates are set, but pools which will reflect start times and locations are not released until the week of the tourney and have been known to change last minute so keep an eye out. Here you can also find directions to the different sites where tournaments are played. The large regional tournaments like the Junior Boys Classic, Boys Invitational and Junior Nationals will post schedules and results on Advanced Event Systems. Team Formation Tryouts: All players must register for tryouts online at: www.sanclementevb.com San Clemente Volleyball Club cannot ensure that we have the proper information to assess or contact your player, unless they are registered online. Players are encouraged to attend all tryout dates in their age division.
Each player will either receive a verbal offer to play on a team and or an invitation sent via email. Parents or player (14 and up), must communicate with the coach or club directors and accept the position that has been offered. If for some reason you have not been contacted by September 11th as to the status of your player, please contact the club directors. Formal written commitment forms and first payment must be delivered on Commitment Day. Number of Players per team: We support multi-sport athletes at the younger age divisions. While we desire volleyball to be given the priority and it is expected that players make the commitment to be at all practices and events, we understand that some conflicts may arise. To ensure continuity throughout the long season we carry more players per team. A team may have a roster of up to 15 players over the course of the season. Play Time: San Clemente Volleyball Club never guarantees play time. Play time varies by the age and level of each team. For example, play time on 12’s team may be spread out more evenly than a competitive 14’s team. The balance between player development during tourney play and winning is an art that each coach will be tasked with maintaining. Coaches will communicate player roles to players and in turn players will learn how to communicate with their coaches regarding their goals. Commitment Day Paperwork: Due on Commitment Day, September 11th from 5p-7p at Ladera Sports Center are the following forms: Signed Letter of Commitment, Individual Membership Agreement, and Medical Release. Payment: Initial payment by check is due on commitment day (check made out to SCVB $840). Subsequent payments will be made online. Each parent will receive an email on how to sign in and make payments through our payment center – Groundworks. Parents are to enroll in automatic withdrawals for subsequent payments.
