Type of Institution/Organization Vocational/Title IV Ownership: Level 1: Virginia Sewing Machine & School Center, Inc. Level 2A: Sara Cristi (80%) Level 2B: Angelica Cristi (10%) Level 2C: Alberto Cristi (10%) It is noted for the record that the Commission originally considered the institution’s application for reaccreditation at its December 2015 meeting. After reviewing the on-site visit team report (visit conducted September 22-23, 2015), and the institution’s response to that report, dated November 14, 2015, the Commission voted to defer further consideration for one cycle and directed the institution to submit an interim report to include the following three items: 1) a narrative update to include documentation of US ED approval of the corrected ownership percentages or any additional correspondence from US ED regarding this issue; 2) a narrative update to include expedited financial statements for 2015 including 90/10 ratios for 2015 and all correspondence with US ED regarding this issue; and 3) a narrative update to include evidence of implementation of the new file checklist, a copy of the new policy requiring quarterly internal audits of student records, and updated Document 28.1s for the period of January – September 2015 with complete On-Site Sampling Verification Forms for all placements and waivers for specified programs. Additionally, at the December 2015 meeting, the Commission voted to issue a Show Cause directive based on the institution’s noncompliant revenue requirement for US ED requiring the institution to show cause why its accredited

Upon review of the institution’s interim report, the Commission voted to vacate the institutional show cause directive based on the institution’s revised 90/10 ratios for 2015, to accept the institution’s iterim report, and grant reaccreditation. The Accrediting Commission commends the institution for its efforts toward meeting the Standards for Accreditation. Further, the Commission found that the areas of weakness cited in the team report were substantively addressed in the institution’s response to that report and in the subsequent interim report and expresses its confidence that the institution will continue to review, monitor, and enhance its operations to assure the high quality of education and training toward which we all strive. Toward tht end, the Commission directed the institution to provide a follow-up report for staff review, as follows: The institution submitted updated Completion and Placement rates for the period of January – September of 2015, and all data indicated that these rates were at or above ACCET required benchmarks. However, the placement and waiver documentation was missing for three students. E. Partida and N. Vega were both identified as waivers on the On-Site Sampling Verification Form but not on the Document 28.1, and no waiver documentation was provided. Further, no self-employment attestation was provided for M. Popking. Therefore, the institution must provide the following: a) waiver documentation for E. Partida; b) waiver documentation for N. Vega; and c) self-employment attestation documentation for M. Popking. Alternatively, the institution must remove these students from the statistics and provide updated Document 28.1s. A copy of this report, including the attached staff report cover sheet, must be emailed to [email protected] for receipt at the ACCET office no later than May 27, 2016. As a reminder, please be advised that late submission and receipt of documents and reports are subject to significant late fees in accordance with Commission policy. These fees are outlined in ACCET Document 10, which can be found at www.accet.org. Please be reminded that a one-day Quality Assurance Visit will be conducted sometime during the institution’s current grant of accreditation, in accordance with longstanding Commission policy. The team’s review will include key standards and an assessment of any areas cited as weaknesses during the last accreditation visit in order to validate that corrective actions have been systematically and effectively implemented to ensure a positive impact on the institution’s operations. The appropriate state and federal education officials will be notified of this action by copy of this letter. The institution is advised to visit the ACCET website at www.accet.org for timely updates and for downloading the most current information, policy documents, and forms. Should you have any questions or need further assistance regarding this letter, please contact the ACCET office at your earliest opportunity. Your continued commitment in support of the
