This course consists of 12 modules and 12 corresponding interactive assignments that will guide you through the process required to be able to successfully design a residential space. It is through participation and interaction that you will develop understanding, confidence and your creative voice. These carefully constructed assignments are also designed to help you build your

first professional portfolio to show off to prospective clients. Throughout the duration of the diploma course, you will be personally instructed by one of our leading designers who will take you on a fascinating journey through every aspect of interior design. You will learn how to see and what to look for when observing design in the world around you.

HOW TO USE OUR COURSE When you enrol with The Interior Design Institute you will automatically receive your login details to access the secure Student Site and all of the information you need to get started. The Student Site is where you will find all of your course materials and where you can interact with your tutor and Student Support staff that will be there to guide you through every step of your journey.

As you work through the modules and submit each corresponding assignment you will gain access to the next module. You will find the assignments fun and interactive.

At the end of this course you will have designed a residential space complete with lighting, fabric, colour and furniture layout that will become part of your professional portfolio. All of your assignments are completed online and only basic computer skills are required, so don’t worry if you are a complete beginner. MATERIALS NEEDED Because the course is provided online there are minimal drawing materials required. You will be notified by email when your assignment has been marked. Our technology allows you to interact with your tutor online through our secure Student Site. We have applications implemented so it is possible to submit your assignments via the Internet. This course is fully compatible with both PC and Mac computers.

WHAT YOU WILL MASTER

Y ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Previous experience in the design field is not necessary to enrol in our course. We only ask that you have enthusiasm and commitment. We recommend that you dedicate a few hours of study time per week so you can take your time to work through the material. Your tutor and Student Support will be there to assist you if you are having difficulty. Remember, every successful interior designer was once a complete beginner!

ou will learn to speak the visual language of design. We all have the potential to speak this language fluently. Although, just as in a language based on words, there are those who speak the visual language more poetically and persuasively than others. For you to learn the art of how so much is communicated without words, we will begin a journey to make you aware of the basic elements inherent in residential design. When you understand how to recognise the presence of the different elements, your observation of existing design will become more informed. You will learn the art and the craft of creating beautiful and functional environments.

U

nder her company name, ‘form and colour’, Wende Reid practices architectural, interior and furniture design, and fine art consulting. She began her career in New York and has been awarded twice for excellence in her designs. During her career, Wende has held licensing agreements in the US and Europe, under her own trademark and for clients.

CONTACT DETAILS She has developed numerous best-selling collections in decorative textiles, wall paper, bed linen, rugs, lighting, dinnerware and flatware.
