30th August 2013 To All Non-‐Domestic/Internationally Based England Hopefuls-‐ Hello! My name is Matthew Bagley and I am the Head Coach of the England Men’s National Lacrosse Team. Thank you very much for your interest in participating in the 2014 World Lacrosse Championships in Denver! This letter is intended to provide all international players with information not only about the trialing process for Team England, but also the qualifications needed to represent England during this tournament, and the requirements for all non-‐domestic hopefuls as well. Firstly, there will be a special trial for all overseas-‐based players that will take place on Saturday, 4th January and Sunday, 5th January 2014 from 10:00 to 14:00 at the Surrey Sports Park, Guilford (GU2 7AD). Each player must attend both days. It will cost £40.00 to attend the trial, with all proceeds going toward expenses to cover the event. Online registration is available at www.englishlacrosse.co.uk, and will close on Sunday, 1st December 2013 at 23:59 GMT. If you have not registered your interest by that date, then you will not be able to trial for this tournament. All England players will need to either hold a valid U.K. passport, be married to a U.K. national, have at least one U.K. parent or grandparent, or possess a Residence Permit allowing them to live in the United Kingdom through the date of the 2014 World Championships. There is no limit to the amount of overseas players who can trial for the team, as long as they meet the criteria listed above, although FIL rules only allow four non-‐passport holders to be selected for the final squad. From this trial, a number of international players will be invited to continue on in the selection process. You will be notified by 10th January whether you have been taken forward or not. However, all hopefuls who are internationally based will need to make a minimum attendance commitment to be considered for the final squad. This includes a Residential Weekend on the 24th, 25th & 26th May 2014 in England that is mandatory for everyone. The weekend will be an opportunity for the overseas and domestic players to train together, and for the coaches and managers to assess the players. The only exception is athletes who are competing in the NCAA tournament on Memorial Day Weekend in the United States. In addition, you must come over to England to train with the team for one more weekend at some point in the spring. I have included a copy of our schedule for your information and future planning. This requirement must be fulfilled by 6th June 2014, when the final squad is named. Finally, if you are selected to the final 23-‐man roster that will represent England at the World Games, you are required to arrive in Denver, USA on 3rd July and stay until the tournament is finished on 20th July 2014. These dates are non-‐negotiable. If you meet the criteria listed above and can manage the time commitments, then I hope to see you at the International Trial in January 2014. Good luck to all overseas hopefuls. I look forward to working with you soon! Sincerely, Matthew Bagley Head Coach: England National Team
