Is your lawn a “Lawn Junkie”?
Lush, green weed free lawns – they are the dream of every homeowner in America. But, the price we pay for those luscious grass carpets may be more than the dollars spent on fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides, not to mention the hours spent on mowing and trimming. The price may also be your health and the health of your children and pets. Nutrimax Natural Organic Lawn Program is designed to reduce the use of herbicides and pesticides each year. We believe that an ounce of natural prevention is worth a pound of chemical cure. The soil contains microbes and organisms that digest the minerals to make nutrients available to the plant. Most herbicides and pesticides will not only kill the weeds and pests, but will kill the beneficial organisms. Without this life in the soil, your lawn has essentially become a “Lawn Junkie”, dependent upon monthly “fixes” of chemicals to be green and weed-free. Nutrimax Natural Organic Approach to Lawn Care The use of natural, organic-based, low salt nutrients, will accomplish in three years what it would normally take Mother Nature one hundred years. Unlike synthetic and chemical fertilizer products, which deaden the soil, Nutrimax’s Natural Organic formulas reduce and cleanse soil of harmful salt build up and stimulate deeper natural root growth. They help create organic complexes that encourage aggressive rhizome growth to fill in bare, thin areas and thicken the lawn. Nutrimax stimulates soil conditions that support healthy turf growth….choking out the weeds. Organic Matter: Decomposed roots, grass clippings and leaves help form the organic matter in the soil. Without organic matter in the soil, soil compaction takes place, forcing the roots feed at the surface of the lawn.

Aerating Myth: Most people believe that core aerating will relieve soil compaction. Nothing is further from the truth. The soil cores left on the surface of the lawn have weed seeds in them which require sunlight, air and water to germinate. After aerating, weed seeds will germinate quickly and start growing in the little holes you have created in the lawn, creating the need to apply an herbicide to kill the new weed growth. A Catch 22 situation….you are adding more herbicides to solve a problem in the soil that has been created by herbicides in the first place. Dethatching Myth: Mat and Thatch is organic matter. Remember, thatch is not grass clippings; thatch is a surface root growth. Dethatching will cut up your root system, which will not only shock and weaken the plant, but removes organic matter that could be used to improve the soil conditions. Thatch should be decomposed with and returned to the soil to improve its friability. Mowing…...A longer blade shades the lawn and produces deeper roots and a greener lawn. Adjust your lawn mower to its highest or second highest level and never cut more than 1/3 off of the blade at a time. It is better to leave the clippings on the lawn to decompose and form more organic matter in the soil. Watering…..Regular saturation watering cleanses the soil salts and produces deeper root growth. Frequent, light watering will result in shallow roots. Lawns should be watered once a week throughout the growing season and more often during hot dry spells. It is sometimes best to let the lawn go dormant during hot weather if you cannot water regularly. It is recommended to water about one inch on the surface of the lawn.
