How can there be…
if God loves the world?
How can Christians behave…
if they love God?
God
“A God small enough to be understood is not big enough to be worshiped.” Evelyn Underhill
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge” Prov.: 1: 7a (NIV)
How big is your God?
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple” Isa.: 6: 1(NIV)
God’s glory
The gifts that God gives us are to be used for His glory and not our own
God remains eternally enthroned

“Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.” Isa.: 6: 2-4 (NIV)
God’s holiness
“God’s holiness is the centrepiece of His attributes.” Dennis Davidson
“Who among the gods is like you, LORD? Who is like you – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?” Ex. 15: 11 (NIV)
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD almighty” Isa. 6: 3b
“Praise the LORD, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The LORD works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed. He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Israel:
The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbour his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children,
so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field; the
wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
But from everlasting to everlasting
the LORD’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children—
with those who keep his covenant
and remember to obey his precepts.
The LORD has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the LORD, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
Praise the LORD, all his works
everywhere in his dominion. Praise the LORD, my soul. Psalm 103 (NIV)
“ ‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD almighty.” Isa.: 6: 5 (NIV)
When confronted by the utter purity of God’s holiness, we cannot help but realise our own impurity.
God’s grace
John 8: 1 - 11
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Isa.: 6: 6 - 7 (NIV)
God’s glory God’s holiness God’s grace
How big is your God?
In Christ, there is nothing I could do to make You love me more; nothing I have done that makes You love me less. You are all I need today for everlasting joy. As You have been to me, so I will be to others. As I pray, I’ll measure Your compassion by the cross and Your power by the resurrection. Amen.
