Students participating in “NON-STOP GAMING” will learn and play a plethora of board games with various game mechanisms.

Understand the differences between American-style and German-style board games. Play an enormous amount of board games with different game mechanisms. Course Goals: Learn how to “teach” a board game. Design and playtest own German-style board game. Reading Instructions to board games. Component: Writing Writing the design proposal for board game. Component: Writing the instructions to accompany said game. 60% participation Grade based on: 20% project (board game design) 20% sportsmanship Description: Non-stop gaming is just that: playing exciting, strategic and FUN board games ALL DAY. These aren’t your typical board games, like Monopoly or Risk. It’s not Candy Land or Sorry. They are deck building, cooperative, tile placement, area control and trick taking games. We’re talking German-style board games. The course will consist of learning various game mechanisms through world-renown board games, like Pandemic Legacy, Ticket to Ride, Dead of Winter, Dominion, Codenames, Colt Express and 7 Wonders. We will play several Spiel des Jahres, or “Game[s] of the Year” that are chosen from a jury of German-speaking board game critics based on game concept, rule structure, layout and design. Students will then have the opportunity to design and playtest their own board game.
