PROGRAM Program Chair Angelo Patti introduced Bob Moore, Sand Lake Town Historian, who related that he had grown up in Bethpage, Long Island. His family had vacationed upstate and he liked this area so much that he moved up here! He remembers reading every historical marker, because his father always stopped for them, fostering his love of history. He graduated from Siena College and SUNY Albany, and taught Social Studies under Jack Thero at Algonquin Middle School. He is now retired and living in West Sand Lake. He readily accepted when asked to become the Town Historian after Judy Rowe retired. He receives many queries for information on people’s genealogy searches. He is a member of the New York State Association of Public Historians, and welcomes
anyone with questions about the town’s past history. He is constructing a history called Sand Lake Then and Now on his I-Pad, using Google maps and as many pictures as he can find of structures from years ago. Bob requests 3the loan of any one’s photos for scanning. He also needs pictures of present day areas of town life to create the complete story, and welcomes any ideas folks have. Bob’s office is in the Town Hall, upstairs, in the back of the Library. He’s usually there on Wednesdays, but you can call for an appointment at 674-2026 ext 20, or email him at
[email protected]. Bob is an active member of the SL Historical Society which meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. February 10th’s program is a continuation of Dutch History from last month, and everyone is welcome to attend. Jim Hoffman thanked Bob for an interesting program, and presented him with our Certificate of Appreciation.
HAPPY DOLLARS $ Bryce Ginther : Presented a NY Times article about Korean adoptees with a front page picture of his daughter Amy and her birth mother! He showed a very cleverly worded announcement of his impending grandfatherhood—from his son Drew! {Congratulations, Bryce!} $ Jim Hoffman: Commented on his mother’s passing a week ago, peacefully at home at a healthy age of 92. {Our condolences, Jim). In reference to the oncoming snowstorm and his decision whether or not to close the schools, he commented that “the city that never sleeps is now shutting down!” $ Kevin Sarsfield: Last Friday at 11:57 AM I became the grandfather for the first time, our grandson Grayson Lee, 8 ½ pounds & 21 inches long, was born in New Jersey! Interestingly my brother became the grandfather of twins, a boy and a girl, the same day! $ Mike Gates: I just returned from Florida and a visit with Shelley’s family! $ Ron Wagner: My alma mater, Ohio State, became national champions by beating Wisconsin 59-0, then played #1 Alabama and beat them, and then #2 Oregon and beat them! $ Joe Trupia: My recent absences were due to a bad case of the flu with bronchitis which both Audrey and I picked up while vacationing over the holidays! My voice is slowly returning! DOOR PRIZE, provided by Angelo Patti, was won by Bob Pasquarelli! The extra dinner was awarded to Lyndon Ellis! 50/50 worth $21 tonight was won by Joe Behson! PROGRESSIVE 50/50, worth $207 this week, managed to stump our treasurer Bob Pasquarelli who didn’t have the magic touch over the 41 cards left in the deck. He picked the Jack of Clubs instead of the King! {Would have been nice to take on your trip to South Carolina!}
