U12A Storm’n Sabres
Bantam B
The U12A team has been keeping busy. The girls have been getting a lot of playing time with some days playing 2 games in a day. Our first tournament in Hermantown was a great place go. The weather was so nice and warm for December making the cold arenas seem even colder. Besides experiencing COLD arenas, they got to see the Duluth lift bridge, ships leaving port, and the fantastic lights of Bentleyville. We are looking forward to two more tournaments to end our season with.
Despite having a young team and moving to a new level, let the checking begin. The kids are figuring it out and are already showing improvement. The team is small this year and learning to work together given they are playing short at times due to injuries. They are enjoying their new coaches and all they have to offer. We continue to have a wonderful set of kids on the team and a great goalie, Riley Hauck, to anchor us.
Squirt A The Squirt A team placed second in their first tournament in Monticello, losing to Chanhassan. They have since enjoyed district competition, as well as the Maple Grove-Osseo tournament which provided great competition from metro teams! They are playing their final tournament in Hermantown at the end of January.

Pee Wee B Congrats to the Pee Wee B team for placing second in the Fargo Woodchipper Classic last weekend. The team beat River Lakes 7-4 on Saturday 1/16, which was their first win against the Stars this year. Congrats boys & gal!
Bernick’s Arena Improvements It was a busy summer at Bernick’s Arena, amongst the Sartell Sapphires and HEAT Program utilizing our facility we made several needed building enhancements made possible through a $100,000 Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission Mighty Ducks Grant which was awarded to City of Sartell / Sartell Youth Hockey in November 2014. The grants are awarded to assist Minnesota communities in developing new ice arenas, improving indoor air quality in ice arenas, and eliminating the use of R-22 in refrigeration systems. The grants require a minimum dollar-for-dollar match from non-state funding sources which brought our total available money to $300,000. We utilized these funds along with matching contributions from Sartell Youth Hockey and City of Sartell to add an ADA elevator, water treatment system which includes domestic water softeners as well as reverse osmosis system for the ice, and a building dehumidification system as well as replacement of our R-22 refrigerant to meet regulations. All of these enhancements will improve building efficiencies and accessibility to allow future expansion as well as increased longevity of systems. In conjunction with this work Bernick’s Arena also partnered with Honeywell Refrigerant to change over to a new refrigerant (R-407F) at a reduced cost to the association in trade for using our arena as a monitoring site for their testing and marketing publications. Bernick’s Arena case study can be found at: http://www.honeywellrefrigerants.com/americas/?document=case-study-bernicks-ice-arena-minnesota-u-s-a&download=1. I would like to give a special thank you to the City of Sartell, Amateur Sports Commission, and Honeywell for their partnerships in these projects. I would also like to thank all board members as well as Jon Erickson for their continued commitment to Sartell Youth Hockey. Robbie Schultz, SYRC, Vice President
