JESUS AND THE BIBLE An Easter Follow-Up Reflection

THE STORY OF THE BIBLE (1) Jesus has always existed as God. (Psalms 90:2) (2) Jesus created the Universe. (Colossians 1:16-18) My thoughts after Easter are always a bit of a mix. For me, I find it easy to go right on celebrating the resurrection of Jesus & following Him because I believe the Bible. I am convinced intellectually and by personal experience that the Bible is absolutely trustworthy and that it teaches us the truths of God. But my thoughts are troubled for many wonderful people, including some who were here at our church last Sunday, because they do not believe the Bible. Most have little to no idea of what the Bible teaches and don’t know what the story it tells is all about. Sadly, many have been fed lies and have swallowed false assumptions. And if one doesn’t know the story or has faulty preconceived notions regarding the Bible, then all this stuff about Jesus … His Gospel, His resurrection, His deity … is simply unbelievable! To these friends and family the Bible is at best an ancient religious book not needed anymore or at worst an ancient relic that never really mattered! But here’s what equally concerns me: Most Christians today are not able to present even a few basic reasons to trust the Bible’s credibility nor can they relate a brief summary outline of the story the Bible tells! So, today’s teaching aims to help us be more confident that the Bible can be trusted and to help us learn short summary of the story it proclaims.
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN JESUS & THE BIBLE
(3) Through Adam & Eve the human race rebelled against Jesus by sinning. (Romans 5:12) (4) Jesus announced His plan to save humanity from the horrible consequences of our sin. (Jeremiah 31:34) (5) Jesus gave the Old Testament to prepare the world to receive His rescue plan. (Romans 15:4) (6) Jesus came, lived, died & rose again to put the rescue plan into operation. (John 11:25) (7) Jesus created His church & gave us the New Testament to get the word out about the rescue plan. (Mark 13:10) (8) Jesus will return to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth. (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:16) (9) Jesus will create a forever-perfect new universe where we will fully follow Him as God. (2 Peter 3:13)
WHAT TO DO WITH THE BIBLE ________ for God to open your eyes to it. (Psalm 119:18)

Seek the __________________ of God through it. (2 Timothy 3:16) Get busy ______________ God by it. (James 1:22) ________ others God from it.
