ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is a non-profit organization that manages a portfolio of some of LA’s most underserved public schools and focuses on piloting innovations that can be scaled across the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and state of California. Launched in 2008 by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the Partnership is a collaboration of LAUSD, the City of Los Angeles and the philanthropic sector. Today it serves approximately 14,000 students across 16 campuses in Watts, Boyle Heights and South LA. The Partnership is one of the largest public school turnaround initiatives in the nation. Over its first five years, the Partnership was the # 1 improving mid-to-large-size school district in the state according to the Academic Performance Index (API). POSITION DESCRIPTION The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is looking for a passionate individual who will be responsible for the implementation of our flagship parent engagement program, Parent College. Parent College is a parent education program that provides workshops and information to parents and family members in order to help them become education advocates for their children. Parent College is a unique program that has gathered attention and recognition among key education leaders across Los Angeles, and even across California and the whole nation. The program serves our three distinct neighborhoods (Watts, South Los Angeles, and Boyle Heights). The Parent College Senior Associate will support the operational and logistical aspects of the program at its three regional school sites on a weekly basis. The Parent College Associate will also manage the outreach and communications aspects of the program. The Parent College Senior Associate work week runs Tuesday through Saturday (with Sunday and Monday as weekly days off) while the program is in session August – April.
RESPONSIBILITIES The Parent College Associate’s key responsibilities include the following areas:
Coordinate all Parent College sessions (held on Saturday mornings) Support in the management of the Parent College Outreach Team to obtain maximum parent participation at each weekly Parent College event Track and analyze data with Parent College Senior Manager including, but not limited to, tracking the number of Parent College RSVPS, attendees and child participants Develop promotional material for Parent College (newsletters, flyers, emails, etc.) Develop and lead targeted outreach strategies to reach higher number of families, particularly families of students with higher academic and socio-emotional needs Coordinate Parent College trainings and professional development for school staff members and Field Team (including Parent College teachers) Manage all logistics for Parent College events, including school site-based “Parent College Comes to You” and the annual University Day (with over 1,000 participants visiting a local university campus) Manage Parent College fiscal responsibilities (budget and invoice tracking) Track work hours for the part-time Parent College Outreach Team Organize and coordinate a resource fair for each Parent College community hub Provide value-added support for events and activities connected to family engagement at Partnership schools Build and maintain relationships with parents, teachers, administrators and community member Other duties as assigned by Parent College Senior Manager and Director of Family and Community Engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have: Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Experience in educating and working with community members and parents of the community Community organizing and/or social service experience Experience working in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment Proven ability to execute effectively against strategy and exceed goals Experience working in school setting a plus

Ability to work collaboratively with the Parent College team, community members, teachers, parents, students, as well as the media Outstanding organizational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to effectively converse with varied audiences using multiple media Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Ability to work under pressure, perform tasks and take initiative Ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently Adaptable when faced with shifting priorities Spanish fluency strongly preferred
