Under 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Mike Webber, the Gator women’s soccer team captured both the NCAC regular season and tournament championships, earning the program’s fourth trip to the NCAA Division III tournament. Freshman Jessie Thiessen, who led the NCAC in both goals (11) and points (28), was named the NCAC’s Newcomer of the Year, and was one of six Gators to earn All-NCAC laurels. Senior Alison Buzzard was an All-Region honoree, and won the 2014 Allegheny Female Senior Athlete Achievement Award. Buzzard and classmates Michelle Holcomb and Leanne Balster were also named NSCAA All-Region Scholars for their performance in the classroom. Bobby Over graduated as the most decorated runner in the history of the Gator cross country and track and field programs. In the fall, he won his second straight NCAC cross country title, before winning the NCAA Mideast Regional crown and taking ninth at the NCAA Division III championship to earn All-America for the third time. In the spring, after winning conference track titles in both the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 5,000 meter run, he was named the NCAC’s Distance MVP, going on to take third in the steeplechase at the Division III National Championship to earn his second career All-America honor in the event. Under first-year head coach and 2008 Allegheny grad Ashley Hughes, the women’s lacrosse team enjoyed its finest season in program history, finishing 15-2 overall and advancing to the NCAC semifinals. The Gators, who opened the year on a 10-game winning streak, saw seven players earn All-NCAC honors. McKenzie Bell led all of Division III with 74 assists, while she added 23 goals to pace the NCAC with 97 points. Kelsey Rodgers scored an NCAC-best 60 goals, while Carly Minsterman was named to the IWLCA North/South National Senior All-Star game after anchoring the Gator defense throughout the season. Patrick Cole graduated as the all-time winningest player in the history of Allegheny men’s tennis. As a senior, Cole earned his fourth straight First Team All-NCAC honor for singles play, going 26-6 at top flight singles, while he teamed with Tyler Triolo to amass a 25-6 mark in doubles play. In all, Cole, who was ranked among the top-15 in the region throughout the season, established new Allegheny career records for singles wins (83), doubles wins (78), and overall wins (161). The Allegheny recipient of the NCAC Male Scholar Athlete Award, Cole was also a Capital One First Team Academic All-District honoree, as voted upon by sports information directors from across the state of Pennsylvania.
