Powering the residential Internet of Things 

JuiceBox uses a cellular connection for remote monitor and control

A JuiceBox connected to the Home Energy Management System provides: ₋

Integration of energy efficiency, clean energy generation and energy storage

Power to smart home loads during casualty operations, automatic transfer in 8ms (under 1 cycle of the 60Hz frequency) – barely perceivable switch over

Monitoring and control of system status and available power

5.5kW of charge or discharge available in under 1 second – equivalent to turning on/ off 12 refrigerators

1

Modular assembly critical for field installs by typical solar 2-man crew Easy to service and upgrade after end of life High quality components, auto-grade relays and current sense, 1/8” aluminum enclosure Out of the box integration to Schneider Conext XW+ inverter yet capable in the future of supporting SMA and Outback hybrid inverters with no hardware changes

3

Installation Time: 2-3 hours 8

Cloud-based Analytics and Remote Field Service 

Each JuiceBox system communicates to a hosted JuiceBox server to monitor: ₋

System status and faults

Device IDs and firmware versions

Current operating state, pack voltage, pack current, SOC

JuiceBox remotely updates discharge and charge schedules based on time of use rates or peak demand changes

JuiceBox can remotely shut-down the system, load firmware updates and restart using a self test procedure to ensure functionality and safety

Individual building owners view their data in an App and web portal

An aggregate view of the all Juice Box deployments enables JuiceBox to participate in Demand Response markets 9

Wire Diagram – AC-coupled 

Utilizes existing grid-tied inverter and PV panel array – most likely no need to go on the roof

Maximum PV array is 6kW for one JuiceBox, larger systems can be split

Critical load panel is installed with a 60A, 2P breaker to the XW+ inverter

JuiceBox Differentiation vs Powerwall 

POWER: The Powerwall system delivers 2kW power output. 2kW is not enough back-up power for the average home. If one runs a refrigerator and a few lights and then turns on a microwave, it could trip breakers. There is a note on a Solar City statement that it is limited to four 120V circuits. The JuiceBox with the Schneider XW+ inverter delivers 5.5kW and can power 240V loads.

MARKET: The Powerwall as sold through Solar City is only for new installations. With the JuiceBox AC or DC-coupled solution, Installers love the fact that they can go back to their satisfied PV customers and now offer a retrofit. The JuiceBox can tap the 1 million solar homes with a retrofit product.

PERMITTING: The Tesla battery is high voltage 375V DC with an integrated DC|DC. There are NEC code requirements that force additional disconnects and design considerations for any battery over 50V. The knowledge of advanced energy storage varies greatly with Building Inspectors and this could be highly problematic in many locales.

TIMING: JuiceBox is installing now in both AC-coupled and DC-coupled configurations. The Tesla system is not currently available and is reportedly sold out through mid-2016.

CHANNEL AVAILABILITY: Tesla delivers primarily through Solar City where Elon Musk is chairman of the board and owns 24% of the company. While they have announced other partners, access is limited. JuiceBox is arming small, medium and large solar installers across the US with product and training now.

INSTALLATION: With the JuiceBox | Schneider XW+ solution, it is completely validated as a package, is ordered through one part number, self commissions requiring no knowledge of the inverter command structure, and has training and installation materials to support permitting and interconnection to utilities

12

Value Proposition

The JuiceBox installer pricing for 2015 is $9900

Investment Hardware: JuiceBox & Schneider XW+ inverter/charger Installation: critical loads panel, hardware install, balance of systems, commissioning process, time spent on permits Less Federal ITC @ 30%

Value Time of use and real time pricing savings where applicable Back-up power & islanding – dependent on location and personal needs Home Energy Management integration Future demand response participation with utilities Self reliance, insulated from future energy price spikes
